Will the bbPress plugin still rely on BackPress?
In reply to: What should be a Plugin, and what should be in CoreAll this, while striving to be as light as possible
I liked reading that!
You guys are starting to win over this bbPress 0.9 user. See what communication can do for a community?
I greatly appreciate the consideration of using 2.0 instead of 1.2 which will at least slow down some confusion and make people realize the true weight of it as more than an update (and entirely different program).
Even from just a marketing perspective, calling the plugin 2.0 just has more impact. You’ll get more people adopting it, more feedback, more developers. It’s a win all around, IMHO.
Matt, I just wanted to quickly say thank you for coming back to bbPress.org forums and answering questions and communicating with us. There are a lot of passionate people here. We might not all agree on the direction, but I can tell you that already your presence (and JJJ and Pete) has helped morale immensely.
In reply to: What should be a Plugin, and what should be in CoreIt’s a natural tension. I think the best way to split the difference is to keep the core lean and mean, and then to have a set of pre-packaged plugins that are included in the main download that can be turned on (or can even default to being on).
This gets my vote as well. Instead, I would prefer the next version of bbPress to have more powerful admin features (see Kevin John’s above examples for specifics).
I’d love to help out. I’m capable of backing up my database and restoring it. :
In reply to: bbPress Plugin is BornI would just like to say that I am happy that JJJ and Pete have stopped in to keep us informed. This is great news.
That said, I’d like to say that I really, really appreciate Kevin’s posts here. He is speaking for a lot of people, whether he knows it or not. He does a great job of summing up a lot of the feelings us long-time bbPress users are feeling right now.
I am really perplexed by some of the actions and statements by Matt, and now Pete’s Twitter post. Maybe it’s because I’m not a coder and have never been involved with an open source project. But it seems strange that you’d allow a few passionate people with questions annoy you so much. Instead of wanting to give up on it, why not engage with us a little more? Why not ask a moderator to make a Sticky announcement? Why not write a blog post announcing the new bbPress plugin?
I repeat: I think the bbPress plugin is a great idea. I just feel we haven’t been kept in the loop very well.
In reply to: bbPress Plugin is BornWhich Dev Update site should we be looking at now?

This is just the beginning of the confusion, I’m sure. Thanks for keeping us posted. We’ve been in the dark for a while, and it’s nice to hear from the plugin developers, even though some of us still use bbpress 0.9.
In reply to: bbPress 1.1 – Maybe Soon!Great news, thanks to everybody involved!

I just make everything forum hidden, and everything works fine. I’m not sure if this is what you are looking for though.
In reply to: What. The. Heck. Is. Going. On!Please stop feeding this troll (the op). I’m surprised everybody took his bait.
Thanks, _ck_! As you reported, it works fine in 0.9.
In reply to: Welcome Back _ck_Welcome back, _ck_! You were missed.

In reply to: IRC ChatsIf there’s interest
There’s not interest? What happened?
We all want bbPress to be developed further, but it’s honestly not where many people want it to be. Kevin is only speaking the honest truth. His tone might seem harsh, but he is passionate. I’m glad he’s here.
The OP may want to consider other solutions… Maybe in a year or two, bbpress will be better developed for him.
In reply to: Really basic stuffAskimet is optimized for WordPress blogs.
I disabled Askimet, and instead I use a variety of other plugins to control spam. Human Test for bbPress, Project Honeypot, New User Notification… they all do the job better than anything else at the moment.
In reply to: IRC meeting February 14thHow did it go?
In reply to: What's happening with bbPress?I’ve been checking the IRC logs and it doesn’t look like much is happening. Perhaps somebody can reassure this non-developer that bbPress development is continuing…
In reply to: bbPress Signatures (0.2.0) installation?Perhaps that’s implicitly done by activating the plugin itself?
That’s correct. You should be good to go.
In reply to: bbPress Signatures (0.2.0) installation? It’s actually under the “Plugins” menu. It should be there in the left-hand column in v1.0.2.
In 0.9.0.6, you’ll need to look under the “Plugins” menu at the top of the page.
In reply to: Plugin UpgradesThe answer is simple, though probably not what you want to hear: stick with v0.9 if you want to use a lot of the great plugins here.
In reply to: Misty Morning ThemeJust to be clear… that’s not my modified version of Misty Morning, but the original version that I downloaded from the author’s website.
