I have a site which I would like to set up both a forum and blog.

I intend to set up the forum first and I’m thinking of using bbpress forums.

Subsequently I want to add in the blog.

I’d like to ask for some opinions:

Should I put the bbpress forums under a subdomain or subdirectory?

Whether I put the forum under subdomain or subdirectory, how do I put it as the default page in the meantime? Like if I go to www.xyzdomain.com it will go straight to the forum page?

While I work on the blog, before its ready, I want to keep it hidden from public eyes.

How do I make it the main page without it being shown while its still in construction, and when its ready, I can unveil it easily?

Hey guys, I just installed bbPress and everything to go fine but no matter what user i use to make a post or a topic I end up with the same results:

I can create forums, and topics but no posts, including the initial post for a topic, are showing up. You see the list of topics but when you click them it only shows the title of the topic with no posts. What’s odd is that on the forum itself it keeps track of the number of posts you supposedly posted… they just don’t show up. Even stranger is that even though on the forums the number of missing posts are still counted, when you go to the admin panel and go to posts it shows no posts (forums and topics show up in the admin panel fine).

Any help would be gladly appreciated.

Is it possible to setup bbPress and use it with buddypress as a global forum, rather than just for groups?

I want to do both:

1.) Use bbPress for forums within groups (I know it does this out of the box)

But also…

2.) Use bbPress as a stand-alone forum outside of groups for basic things like ”Site Feedback” and ”General Topics”.

Why doesn’t this forum have better spam protection? I don’t know who is in charge of implementing these kind of things but here is a suggestion:

Hello, when I try and change my bbpress theme I get this error at the top of the page,

Is there an option or plug-in for Forum to show the amount of times someone has viewed a post? Our previous forum software had that option and we would really like to have that.

I have a WPMU install with Buddypress and BBPress. It seems to be integrated to the point of the users are shared even though when you leave the WP side the users are not logged in on the BBPress side. I thought they were suppose to be, no?

That actually isn’t my reason for posting this time but if you have an answer on that please let me know.

I have the bbpress installed in a directory in the root of my domain – site-forums.

I would like to change that to just forums.

I was thinking that would be a simple task by changing the URL in bbpress admin and then changing the directory.

I noticed I had to then change the bb-config file as it had the path noted as site-forums.

Doing the changes broke the site altogether. First I couldn’t get to the admin area at all. Then as I got things half back as the bbpress site was nothing but links like a ftp directory in your browser.

Is there a way I can change the directory and if so, how?

One last thing to note, when I made the changes the Forums link under community in my main site disappeared. Not sure how that ties into any of this.

I do have things back to where they were before I made my changes. So it’s sitting at site-forums.

For whatever reason, the hot tags are all the same font size. Aren’t they supposed to be various sizes?

I wonder if anyone can help please. I have run an update to a WordPress site (created by someone else) that had bbpress integrated. I didn’t upgrade BBpress. Before the WP upgrade, the forum was working fine. However since the wordpress upgrade (from 2.9.2 to 3.1) we are having the following problems:

1) I cannot access the bbpress admin panel

2) The Forum is showing posts and topics but the reply form is missing (only the heading shows)

3) I cant see any way of creating posts, topics or threads so I presume something else is missing…

I had to rewrite the WordPress theme files as the original custom theme had been so badly coded / core hacked etc. I haven’t touched the custom bbpress theme so thought it would be something to do with that. So first thing I did was disable it and enabled the default bbpress theme (through phpmyadmin) but have exactly the same set of problems – which to me rules out a theme issue.

Anybody have any ideas where to start? Sorry I am not sure of bbpress version. Where do I find that?

I have dozens of spammers signing up on my forum: http://dowdycornerscookbookclub.com/dccc_forums/

Although there do not appear to be any new posts added when looking about on the user interface, spam topics appear in the admin dashboard under “Recently Moderated Items”.

When I click on an item under “Recently Moderated Items,” and then scroll down and click “Close topic,” I get this message: “There is a problem with that topic, pardner.”

I have Askimet installed. Is this something else I can install to block spammers from signing up?

And once these spammers have signed up, what is the best way of dealing with them? Should I delete them one by one or block them? Also, is there a way to select several at once to either delete them or block them? The only thing I can figure out to do so far is to open each spammer’s member profile and delete/block from there, which is taking FOREVER.
