This is probably a bit of an odd request.

I’m setting up a small BP site for an existing community, which consists of one super-group with all members in it, and a number of smaller groups.

Is there any way I can easily set up a form for a non-member of a group to post to a group’s forum? For example, we have a group for the committee, which will have a private forum, but I want to allow non-members to send messages to the committee group, ie, by posting a ‘guest’ post in the private forum… This way, they can receive replies to their post (by email notification), but cannot see the rest of the private forum.

So far, I’ve got the beginnings of a widget which will show different content depending on group membership status, so I can show a ‘post a message’ form for non-members, and I think I’ve figured out what would need to be written to the DB in order to create a new topic in the right forum, but what would I need to do to ‘subscribe’ the non-member to the topic. I presume it would be in the bp_notifications table, but can someone give some pointers on what the ‘secondary_item_id’, ‘component_action’ and ‘is_new’ fields do?

As standard, clicking a user points you to example.com/forums/users/username
I would like to override that link and point it somewhere else because I have custom user profiles. Kind of like BuddyPress does, but how?

I just installed the latest trunk of both to continue my testing. I like a lot of the improvements, but I’ve been discovering some bugs here and there. Not sure if this is the place to post it, but here it goes.

First off, the 2 work well together now, except when you try to mix the site-wide forums with group forums. If you click on a group and look at the forum tab, it shows posts from the next group-forum or site-wide forums. What I’m attempting to do is create groups, with a top-level forum for each group, and then sub-sitewide forums underneath, which I nest using the backend bbpress admin. These sub-forums don’t have a group all their own they just belong underneath and listed in forums top of the master group they are part of. It looks like this functionality is somewhat coded into the newest branch of buddypress 1.7 and bbpress 2.3, and if fixed it would be perfect. I know there is a plugin called buddypress group hierarchy or something, but it’s not really what I’m looking for, because it assumes I want full group buddypress functionality surrounding the sub-forums. I just want more granular control over the topics on each group.

@johnjamesjacoby – hear our plea. Allow us to create sub-forums in bbpress for the top-level forum in buddypress groups. When you click on the group, the sub-forums that belong to it will show underneath. When posting to the group forum, maybe even an option to move the topic to the top level group forum or sub-forums for the user? Just a thought. Thanks for all the great work on this, it’s getting much better now.

My site is amanofreason.com. I recently went through the Buddypress installation wizard and the other necessary installation material. I am now wondering how I can make the newly created page titles that were created by installation wizard subtitles to the others. For example, I want to make the Activity and Group Page Titles a subtitle of the Main Members Tab/Title. Also, my sidebar seems to be imbalanced on these new pages and I am unaware as to what to do to fix it. Lastly, on my dashboard it states that I have a separate registration page title but it does not appear on my homepage. How can I fix these problems. I appreciate any help/advice.

I am using WP’s “fancy editor”, and I would like to only display the Visual editor to my users, and not HTML. I want to hide the HTML tab. Can that be done?

Please could you explain why the TinyMCE advanced editor does not show when creating a forum topic.

When I post through “Topic” or “Reply”, I can’t see my post promptly after posting. But post contents are shown only after I do “Logout” and “Login”.

My ideal is that I can see the post promptly after posting without “Logout” and “Login”.

Please kindly tell me the phenomenon is normal or not.

I’m making the switch from Vanilla Forums to bbPress, so forgive my noobish questions.

I’m setting up an educational site, where users interact with the content, then click “Action” or “Reflect” buttons, that with Vanilla, where just linked to the forum itself. I had roles/permissions set to only allow users within a particular group to see one categories of posts.

This allowed me to send them generically to the forum, without having to link specifically to the forum posts. As different groups access the content, but buttons would take them to the appropriate area on the forum.

Can I do something similar with bbPress?

What steps do I take to replicate this? In Vanilla I had to create a custom user group, and then a category on the forum that was tied to it.

I followed the guidelines in the documentation, but still having some problems. In the link above you’ll see a directory without forums and topics. I want that all the forums appear in the directory.

What I’m missing or doing wrong?
