bbpress 2 and theme installation/setup

Published on June 13th, 2013 by neurodancer

I just got my WordPress site marginally working and I need forum software.

I am looking at Mingle, Simple, and bbPress.

bbPress seemed a good choice because it was supposedly easy to install and was done by the WP team and has nice features.

bbPress is anything but easy to install when it comes to themes. The instructions I found are almost universally out of date.

Are there no themes for bbPress ready to install and modify? I can’t find anything, and none of the intructions/guilds I have found so far help or work.

I am using Suffusion right now, and I just want bbPress to use its style.

Does Buddypress Moderation works with individual forum topic?

Published on June 13th, 2013 by vinay

Hi,
I have wordpress with version 3.4.2 and Buddypress Version 1.6.1 and bbPress version 2.2.3.
I have installed BuddyPress Moderation version 0.16. I have integrated it to group page and member profile page but is it possible to implement it on forum topic posts?

users cannot login to bbpress

Published on June 12th, 2013 by rsbenedict

I’m using wordpress 3.5.1 with bbpress plugin 2.3.2.

Although I have users already registered, those users cannot login to bbpress. When they go to the default forum page, it gives the wp login page and then when they add in their credentials, it just redirects back to the same page stating they must be logged in to see the page.

They have the roll of participant and I’ve even downloaded the members plugin and added all of the participant functions to the subscriber roll yet still the same issue.

The only person who can view the forum is the administrator.

Any ideas? I’ve been trying to fix this now for hours and it’s driving me crazy. I’ve searched the web and haven’t found any solutions except for installing the member plugin, but still, it has no effect.

I’d hate to have to use another forum software, but if I can’t get this to work, I’ll have no other recourse.

Questions about Switching from Simple:Press

Published on June 12th, 2013 by KakehashiJapan

Hello,

I am currently using Simple:Press for my website’s forum, but I am not satisfied because they have made it so that one must pay for a monthly membership to gain access to plugins such as an image uploader or font options. After doing some research, I have decided that I would like to switch to bbPress for my website’s forum, but I am not quite sure how to do this.

I am not a programmer, so I am wondering if it is simple enough for me to do or if I would have to hire someone to do it for me? I want to import my theme and all of the posts from my forums to bbPress. Is this difficult to do?

I need the forum to be limited to members only for posting, and I want there to be the ability for users to insert images and format text.

I would appreciate any help or suggestions as I am a complete newbie!

Thanks!

wp_dropdown_categories equivalent for BBPress

Published on June 12th, 2013 by maisdesign

Hi, actually I’m trying to develop a WP plugin that will let users create a post and a forum with same title.
You can check and fork my code on GitHub https://github.com/maisdesign/MDPostEforumsCreator

As you can see actually one of the features I’m looking for is the equivalent for wp_dropdown_categories in BBPress.
With this drop down I’ll be able to let the user choose the parent forum for the forum he is creating.

I can’t find any documentation about it, am I missing something?

Help with the forum index page

Published on June 12th, 2013 by _sushi

I am having a bit of trouble integrating my WooTheme “canvas” with bbpress. I have read the “Theme Compatibility” article. I understand what it says but i am not sure when looking at the template PHP files that comes with bbpress where in my code i need to put the template code, and which part of the bbpress template code to use.

I also switched to the “TwentyEleven” theme and it worked fine. I tried comparing the WooTheme code to TwentyEleven using Firebug, and i can see there is an obvious difference in the code. But i am lost as to what to change.

I have setup all the correct settings in the Dashboard area.

Any help would would be greatly appreciated.
I am using WordPress 3.5.1
and bbpress Version 2.3.2

EDIT: I am having a bit of trouble with too much website traffic shutting my site down when i post the page address. So maybe if someone can point me in the direction of more info on intergrating bbpress with different themes. As stated above i have read the Theme compatibility article.

Forum reset deletes wordpress meta data

Published on June 12th, 2013 by edwardbarker

Strange problem. I’m trying to migrate from 1.2 to 2.3 without any success. The import hangs at around 37,000 replies. Forums, posts and replies are showing up to about 8 months ago but no fresher than that. I suspect this is because I tried the import about 8 months ago and we now have duplicate users.

But when trying to reset the forum (plugin not standalone) many thousands of meta data points are deleted from wordpress. As a result thousands of blog post tags and categories have disappeared.

I will restore the database but I have no idea how to progress the import from here.

Any ideas? We have been trying for a week now in what had become a very frustrating process. It’s also become expensive since I contacted a developer to help. Any advice is much appreciated.

Website is unitedrant.co.uk

1.2 is at \forum
2.3 is at \forums

User Profile 404 redirect

Published on June 11th, 2013 by barrowr

I am using bbpress integrated into a WP site and all is working fine apart from when a user has registered and now wishes to view/amend their profile. A 404 page is thrown up. Logged on as admin and viewing the profile is fine just not a contributor.

I have looked far and wide, here on this forum and elsewhere. I have tried to apply any fixes that resemble addressing the problem I’m having, they haven’t worked or they don’t make sense to me.

Any ideas would be gratefully received as this site is now live. I’m also not an expert in php, more frontend but I’ll give anything a go.

Is it possible to limit moderator role to groups it's a member of?

Published on June 11th, 2013 by weezies

Hello. In playing around with roles in group forums, it appears that a user with a moderator role can perform moderator functions (less the ability to edit) in groups wherein the user is not a member. Is it possible to limit the moderator’s capabilities only to groups wherein the moderator is a member?

I’m a newbie. Any help, comments would be much appreciated. Thank you.
