Quick question about creating forum similar to Dropbox Forum

Published on November 14th, 2013 by cornellist

Hello,

I am currently working on a school project that is in dire need of a adequate forum and I think bbPress would fit the bill perfectly. I am completely new here, I just had one really quick question:

So I read that the dropbox support website forum, https://forums.dropbox.com/ was based on bbPress and I was wondering what it would take to make something as similar as possible to that.

We don’t need social functions, or any other sophisticated integration — we need a forum, login functionality and that’s it.

Could anyone give me some pointers or leads as to how I could accomplish this?

Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Chang title of the Forum Root – Forums Archive

Published on November 14th, 2013 by 5ngua

Currently the Forum Root is titled Forum Archive by default and there is no way to change it from the back-end. This is still impossible even when the Forum Root is partnered with a wordpress page optimized with a SEO pluggin like All In One SEO or WordPress SEO By Yoast.

So I think I going to modify the code to get this done, but I need your instruction, please help.

And how can I request this possibility as a default feature in the next BBPress realease? I think many people will thank it.

Thanks in advance,
Hung.

Losing Genesis Prose Sidebar

Published on November 14th, 2013 by merpmerp

Hello,
I have Genesis Prose, and I guess I will have the latest version of the bbpress forum plugin. Here is my site, www.unclaimed-funds.org .

I would like to add a forum to the site, but I would like to get rid of the sidebar on the forum page.

Is this possible?

Thank you,

Mark

Rating Users Activity

Published on November 14th, 2013 by bvirkus

Does anyone recommend any plugins to track and rate a users Forum activity. Hence, I don’t just want people to rate their content, but I also want the user to be rewarded for their volume of activity. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Post from non-admin users are not visible

Published on November 14th, 2013 by Aryeh1

I’m not very experienced with bbPress. I am trying to make sure my forum works properly by creating a “test” user and trying to post from that account. When I submit the test post, it does not show up at all on the forum. Can anyone please help me with this?

Internal Server Error creating new post

Published on November 14th, 2013 by Peter Hardy-vanDoorn

WP 3.7.1, BP 1.8.1, bbPress 3.4.1. Forum is within a Group.

I’ve recently been seeing Internal Server Errors when trying to make new forum posts and replies. After clicking the Submit button it takes about 40 seconds and then the error appears. Interestingly, the UTL in the address bar changes to that of a recent post.

I have checked the server logs and see these 2 lines:

[warn] mod_fcgid: read data timeout in 40 seconds
[error] Premature end of script headers: index.php

This is a recent development and, to the best of my recollection, I haven’t changed anything.

Any insights would be much appreciated.

Cheers

How to style forum title or topic title

Published on November 14th, 2013 by squid1974

Hi all,

I can’t find where the title output is coming from. I want to wrap it in a <h1>. In the default templates it starts with <div id="bbpress-forums"> and the title’s output is before that. But where is it coming from? I can’t find it.

Upon registering, domain.com/wp-login.php shows code and no email is sent

Published on November 14th, 2013 by P4p3Rc1iP

I’m quite new to WP and don’t know anything about PHP, so please don’t mind me asking stupid questions…

Anyway, so I’ve installed the bbPress plugin, set up a forum, etc. and now I want users to be able to register and post. When users click the register button and fill in their details, they’re taken to domain.com/wp-login.php which displays just code.

When they refresh the page they get a login screen, but they’ve not received a password. Users are created and visible in the admin panel.

Do they not get an e-mail because the page wp-login.php page is broken or the other way around? Or is it something entirely different? I’ve searched around for a while but nothing that seems to answer my question.

Site: http://convoy-games.com/index.php/forums/

Don’t mind the theme/layout/colors. Wanted to get functionality before visuals.

Thanks!

Trying to Convert Mingle to bbpress

Published on November 13th, 2013 by wolverineguy7575

Hello,
I’m trying to do the convert from mingle to bbpress. I found the post

Importing Mingle Forums into bbPress?

Which Stephen Edgar was assisting someone on and was able to get it to work. I put in the information to start the convert and got this error:

Repair any missing information: Continue
WordPress database error: [You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near ‘\”wp_forums_\”forum_forums AS forum_forums LIMIT 0, 100’ at line 1]

SELECT convert(forum_forums.id USING “utf8”) AS id,convert(forum_forums.parent_id USING “utf8”) AS parent_id,convert(forum_forums.name USING “utf8”) AS name,convert(forum_forums.description USING “utf8”) AS description,convert(forum_forums.sort USING “utf8”) AS sort FROM \”wp_forums_\”forum_forums AS forum_forums LIMIT 0, 100No forums to convertStarting Conversion

I’m not a database expert by any means and I don’t want to screw up anything. If anyone could help me with getting this done I would appreciate it very much. Mingle is slowing down my site and I need to get to something better.

Thank you,
Scott
