I spoke too soon… the backend looks like everything is connected coorrectly- forums-posts- users. The front end shows something similar to this on all forum pages

This forum contains 11 topics and 19 replies, and was last updated etc…

Oh bother! No topics were found here!

Give the bbPress 2.3 Beta a shot, everything you mention is fixed except user passwords.

    bbPress 2.3 Beta 2

The only outstanding issue is imported vBulletin users have to manually reset their password.

After the import you have to run the ‘Repair Tools’ to recount the topics and replies otherwise they will not be visible in the front-end.

When using the integrated importer, the users don’t make it over. It takes 2 tries to get the replies. Everything is attributed to admin. When viewing the forums in the front end the forum reports the number of topics etc but nothing is listed. When I use the external plugin bbConverter, everything except the replies are transferred and the boards do show correctly in the front end. If I try to import the replies with the integrated importer after the fact everything gets duplicated and the contents are jumbled with wrong user/wrong post after the counting is done. I’m giving these details since I have been browsing the messages here looking for a solution and it seems you might be interested in hearing about issues. I look forward to when it all comes together. Thanks for trying to make this happen for everyone.

Apologies, I missed this when you posted this. This has been fixed in the upcoming bbPress 2.3.release.

I know someone is currently working improving the stock convertor for vbulletin, but is it possible to convert the database into a phpBB database and then convert that to bbpress/buddypress?

Does anyone have any recent experience with this and if everything is retained?

Also, what are some suggestions on converting the blogs from my members?

    Thanks!

I agree this is a reasonably clever approximation for displaying which threads have been viewed by the user however there is one primary feature that most forum-goers look for in a “unread posts” feature that this does not successfully proxy for, which is the ability to query a list of topics which are unread and/or have unread replies.

I played around with an alternative approximation of this feature by generating a list of topics with replies more recent than the user’s last recorded activity (from BuddyPress), but this also only simulates the functionality that posters are used to from a VBulletin style message board.

Replied back! I would look forward to helping more people get rid of the crappy vbulletin service that they have to pay for it, and come to open source wordpress/bbpress/etc.

I just hope this serves as an opportunity for us to push wordpress/bbpress/buddypress further.

Let me know if there’s anything else I can do to help you guys, help me, help wordpress. LOL

Tried to import from my current vBulletin 4.2 to bbPress 2.2.3 using the bbPress import function, all forum, topic and replies were migrated correctly however the users we not migrated and are under the admin account, I tried it twice and made sure I checked the convert users. Not too sure what I did wrong.

I also have buddypress installed as well if that matters.

I’m having the same issue as well. I noticed that the tracking ticket says it has been fixed, but I’ve got nothing. šŸ™

I’m willing to help out however I can to help improve this functionality. I know a lot of people would love to leave vbulletin’s shotty service and rip off tendencies after what they did to us with 4 and want to do to us with 5.

If staff wants me to make a new ticket, then let me know!

    Thank you guys!

Yes, a vBulletin importer is included with bbPress.

I posted my question on StackOverflow as well.

    http://stackoverflow.com/questions/13920322/vbulletin-to-bbpress-conversion-how-can-i-redirect-the-old-urls-to-the-new-one

I have to find a solution fast because i’m currently losing a lot of SE traffic.

Firstly, I am currently looking for feedback on the vBulletin importer and there have been reports that users do not get imported correctly, did your users get imported correctly?

eg. Migrating vBulletin 4.0.4 to bbPress 2.2.3 and bug tracking ticket #1991.

What version of vBulletin and bbPress are you using?

I personally don’t have access to vBulletin so I haven’t been able to test much of anything relating to vBulletin basically so helping out with your .htaccess would also be a bit of hit and miss.

Stack Exchange has some great examples of rewrites

This is one of my favourites even though it is not specific to any of your needs here it is a good example of mod_rewrite regex rules.

A couple of other resources to help along the way:

I am currently looking for feedback on the vBulletin importer and this issue has been raised previously in our bug tracking #1991.

At the moment I am working on updating all the forum importers for the next major release of bbPress and waiting and seeking feedback from more users as this still appears broken for some and not others but as I don’t have access to vBulletin myself I cannot test this directly myself, let alone the different versions etc

I would be more than happy to take a look at this for you and make any fixes as needed.

Drop me an email to stephen@netweb.com.au and we can discuss it further.

    Hey everyone,

I converted my vbulletin forum to bbpress and everything works fine except the redirection of the old urls part.

I want to redirect old vbulletin urls to the new bbpress ones using .htaccess but i have no idea how to do it. I’m still new to URL redirection.

    Old vBulletin URL:

    http://www.forum.site.com/showthread.php?80-post-title

    New bbPress URL:

    http://www.site.com/forums/topic/post-title

Can anyone help me? I would really appreciate it.

    Topic: Forum Icons ?

    in forum Themes

    Hey all…

Hey to BBpress but have been working with / designing for many other platforms.. Anyways i was wondering what templates i would need to be editing in order to add a small forum icon next to the forum list… Much like how vBulletin / xenforo have a forum icon on the left before / next to the forum title.

Thanks in advance for any assistance on this.

    Regards, Darren
