    Ok, this is weird. I am running a forum at ukjournalism.co.uk/huoguo Ihave users in the UK and China. The UK users can post, but when the users in China post, it all seems to work, but the posts don’t show on the page. I can see the posts in the dashboard, and they are “published”, but they’re just not there. The list of postes even says Showing 5 posts of 8, but I can’t see the last three at all.

    All I can think is that there is some setting deep in the bowels of the plugin, wordpress, or my server itself, that simply won’t let something from a Chinese IP post? Any other possibilities? The posts are all in English, it’s not a character typeset problem.

    It seems that bbPress will be using GlotPress for managing translations

    http://bbpress.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/1737

    http://bbpress.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/1738

    http://bbpress.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/1739

    Can someone please explain what it is and how it works in layman terms? Details are a bit sketchy at http://glotpress.trac.wordpress.org/

    Will the translations be pulled live from a web service? Or will every update to the language push .mo .po files to the bbPress installation, and these files will continue to be stored locally? Or is it something entirely different?

    Also, in what sort of timeframe/milestone is bbPress planning to make a switch to GlotPress automatic mechanism? I know that the translations are already available at http://translate.wordpress.org/projects/bbpress/plugin/

    @ebiznet88:

    I’m checking out another possible solution to bridge phpBB3 to WP. Its a plugin available at https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wp-phpbb-bridge/

    Interesting.

    But it sucks that in this plugin user management has been given to phpBB. WordPress has many more interesting options, like FB/Google/Twitter login, etc.

    @ebiznet88: Hard Seat Sleeper is on topic and talking about bbConverter

    I’m also experiencing this problem. Having installed the bbPress plugin (2.02) on my WordPress site, I’ve managed to get almost everything working. However, when I try to view a User Profile (http://site_url/users/username) I get a 404 error – but only for ‘Forum Participant’ members (not admins).

    I do not have any other membership plugins installed. It happens for members created without spaces in their usernames (which was one suggestion), and it happens even if I switch off the “prefix forum area with forum base slug” and recreate the forum, as suggested here.

    Does anyone have any ideas?

    EDIT: one other point, and it’s an odd one, even though the page shows a 404 error in the headers, it displays fine in Chrome and Opera. However, it does not initially display in Internet Explorer 9 and shows a browser 404 page, but it does show up after two refreshes (though not 1). Go figure.

    Hi All, I have installed bbpress and have managed to create forum sections and even post topics from wordpress admin page. However, when I try to access the topic both as an admin, regular user or non logged in, I receive “comments are closed”. Any ideas?

    many thanks

    Hi

    I’m still playing around with bbpress/buddypress on my test site wpthemetrial.com. I know I’m doing something fundamentally wrong, so can I please get help.

    I originally copied all the bbp-twentyten files into my active theme and manually edited the files like archive-forum.php, archive-topic.php to get these pages how I wanted them to look.

    However, how do I setup my forum homepage to use the page-front-topics.php template? When I create a WP Page at wpthemetrial.com/forum the bbpress automatic page using the archive-forum.php file always overrides it. It says “Archive Slugs

    Include custom root slugs to prefix your forums and topics with. These can be partnered with WordPress pages to allow more flexibility.”

    but I can’t get it to work.

    For now I’ve inserted ‘forumbb’ http://wpthemetrial.com/forumbb/ and ‘topicsbb’ http://wpthemetrial.com/topicsbb/ as my archive slugs, but I’d really like to use my WP custom pages, http://wpthemetrial.com/forum/ and ttp://wpthemetrial.com/topics/ as they are easier to update and manage.

    Thanks

    EB

    I want created a new menu in the Admin Menu Editor, show topic no-reply, so I set this URL is not intended to replace it. “edit.php? post_type = topic & no_reply = yes” to the edit.php file to get the Query to do what I must do it out of the Query, but WordPress is a SQL statement to display correctly. I know that I can put it on edit.php.

    Hello,

    For now here are the issues:

    bbpress plugin installed on jan27 with Minimatica theme.

    since a week and a half:

    – more and more forums/posts/topics are disappearing: showing only in the admin panel but not on the user end (or only partially with no sidebar/footer/admin bar).

    – users can actually post in some forums but not in affected forums/topics/posts.

    – admin bar not showing in the “user” tab in the admin panel.

    – wordpress backup not backing up the website.

    What i did:

    – checked and repaired all the database to insure they were ok.

    – uninstalled wp super cache and installed quick cache

    All the issues are still here… I’m running out of things to try…

    Anyone have ANY idea? Maybe I should uninstall and reinstall bbpress?

    That does help, thanks. I was able to reproduce the issue using the “bbPress (Twenty Ten) theme by WordPress and bbPress teams”.

    One observation is that the button does not appear on forum pages if your active theme does not include bbPress template files. For instance, switch to Twenty Eleven, and the button(s) no longer appear on your forums list page at /forums/

    Still digging…

    Hi Spence. Ok just to be clear are you saying that if I have made no other alterations to the style.css file then if I add the code below to that file it should make it wide? Sorry I am a novice with WordPress and im just trying to figure out why this is not working. Thanks so much for your help;

    /* bbPress Sitewide Forums – Optional – Make full width */

    body.bbPress #sidebar {display:none;}

    body.bbPress #main {width:100%;}

    .bbp-forums {

    width: 100%;

    }

    The plugin was recently updated to version 1.4 – added more resource links, plugin support etc. — just check it out at:

    OK… perhaps I’m a moron but I’m just trying to figure out how to get stuff up and running. I’m currently running a WordPress blog that gets a lot of traffic, self-hosted on a dedicated server, currently running the Thesis theme.

    I am not wedded to the Thesis theme.

    I want to add forums to my website and a social networking aspect, and from looking around it seems like bbPress and Buddypress are the best of the best. I want the move from my blog to the forum to the member area to be as seamless as possible (and the ability to run as many ads/same sidebar widgets/etc) as possible.

    Where do I start? (I’m getting quotes from $2K-$15K, which really makes me feel like I ought to learn something before I engage a third party.) Do I start by learning about bbPress? Learning about Buddypress? Switching to a new theme (such as Genesis) and learning that first? Should/can I just add bbPress first and then add Buddypress later when time/money allows?

    (Currently users do not have to log in to comment, so the forum will be the first time they have to do that.)

    I had bbPress running for a while and obviously spam was a problem — is there some default list of plugins you need right from the getgo?

    Sorry to ask such a basic question but every time I come to this forum I’m spinning in circles.

    Thank you hugely for any guidance anyone can provide.

    Thanks,

    K

    Doesn’t look like we’ll be receiving any responses from the creators. It looks like they have abandoned the project.

    I’m sure they receive email notifications of replies to this thread, and there have been so many questions posed but they haven’t bothered to come in to reply. Even their website forum has been quiet.

    I’m checking out another possible solution to bridge phpBB3 to WP. Its a plugin available at https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wp-phpbb-bridge/.

    I will be installing it as soon as I can squeeze a few hours in and hope it works.

    Has anyone else tried this bridging plugin and care to give a review?

    I have installed bbPress into my WP site and the forum works great but I can not get widgets to show up on any of the forum pages. I have tried the ‘bbPress WP Tweaks’ plugin and have had no success. I really need to have widgets on my forum pages but can’t figure out what I’m missing.

    Info:

    – Version of WordPress : 3.3.1

    – Version of PHP/MySQL : 5.2/5.1

    – Version of bbPress: 2.0.2

    Thanks!

    No idea what commercial theme you’re using so its impossible to say. It’s also up to users like you that use totally custom themes to test how well it works with bbPress and report any issues you run into to the theme authors.

    Remember that what bbPress is doiing is actually the first of its kind in the WordPress world, so the more you can help forge it early on is the better it will be and easier it will get.

    Although I’m not clear as to what you may be doing, I can say that the easiest and most direct way to handle this is to modify the controlling css style sheet on your wordpress theme. In almost all cases, if you have not otherwise modified your config.php or other css references, this will allow you to override bbPress styles from your active wordpress theme (or child theme).

    The bbPress theme files remain untouched… they are merely modified or styled by the wordpress style sheet. There are no markup changes in this example.

    Looking around at various BB options for my wordpress site. The main feature i will be needing is an “application” page. Where a user(with or without an account, prefer with) can fill in various fields and then when they submit this, it will get posted to a certain forum with all their answers, where the proper people can discuss the application and voice their opinion to approve to deny it. In essence a way for people to apply to the forums/site. like a job application posted to the forums, and managers can discuss the application.

    Its important that it is a page that gets posted to the forums, and it needs to have custom fields.

    It can either be a custom user sign up page, where it submits the new user request to the forums, or something separate after the user signs up an account.

    anything like this exist for bbpress?

    #111801

    It won’t have it im afraid. Does the WordPress theme always take prescedent over the bbpress theme? If so am I wasting my time modifing the bbpress css? What is the optimal way to have this structured?

    Thanks again for your help.

    Hello,

    I am using bbpress 2.0.2 on the latest version of wordpress.

    I have added in bbpm by uploading it to my wordpress plugin file through ftp. I can see it in my installed plugins under the wordpress dashboard, but when i try to activate it I get the following error:

    “Fatal error: Call to undefined function bb_load_plugin_textdomain() in /home/lifeafte/public_html/wp-content/plugins/bbpm/bbpm.php on line 20”

    I looked through the forum and found some suggestions of adding bbpm into a “my-plugins” folder under the bbpress folder, but I have done this, after creating the folder, but cannot see that one anywhere in my wordpress dashboard.

    I would really appreciate some help.

    Thank you.

    Hello,

    I am using bbpress 2.0.2 plugin on the latest version of wordpress.

    Is it possible to add in custom fields, to add in postcodes for example, into the registration process for users of the forum?

    I have looked through previous threads and feel they are all too old to answer this question for the new bbpress plugin.

    Many thanks for your time and help with this.

    I assumed that the new plugin version of bbpress would share tags and rss with the host wordpress install. Turns out it’s not the case as far as I can see — bbpress has it’s own list of topic tags separate from the main wp install, and posts do not go to the wp rss, but rather /forum/rss.

    Is there any plan to integrate these someday?

    #42242

    Hello everyone

    new to all this so appologies if this is very simple and obvious to fix

    Basically I installed the bbpress plugin yesterday and got it working, then this morning I ran the auto set up functions after having already made some pages so I linked them via the options.

    Due to the auto page maker it made extra pages that i wanted to delet and thus did so on the page editor. however the pages I linked didnt show front end but did back end???

    also pages I deleted still showed front end??? when clicking on them the browser just went blank.

    so now reaching this impass i decided to uninstall that is when i got this message

    Fatal error: Class ‘BBP_Theme_Compat’ not found in /hermes/waloraweb043/b1820/pow.pressstartvgca2/htdocs/wordpress/wp-content/plugins/bbpress/bbp-themes/bbp-twentyten/functions.php on line 32

    and now when ever you go to the site this is what you see

    http://www.pressstartbc.com

    I dont know how to get around this as I cant log in etc

    do i have to go back to my server and just take worpress off and reinstal the whole thing?

    All help much appreciated

    thank you in advance
