Maybe this will explain it a little better:

<?php _e( 'Pages: ', 'wptumble' ); ?> <?php bbp_forum_pagination_links(); ?>

That basically adds ‘Pages:’ right before the page links. The ‘downside’ is that ‘Pages:’ is output to the browser even if there are no links available.

what I am trying to do is something like:

<?php bbp_forum_pagination_links('before_links' => 'Pages:'); ?>
