I’ve resolved this issue by messing around with the default side bar settings and inserting custom sidebars.
Thanks for your reply. It’s a bit difficult for me to explain without you seeing how I’ve set up the forums page layout. I’ll try again.
My forum is integrated with wp.
For this I created 2 menus one for the blog and one for the forum.
All the blog pages have a blog sidebar and appear as they should.
All the forum pages have forum sidebars and appear as they should except for the forum lists page (main page) that still has the blog sidebars.
I have set the template for this page as bbpress forums (index)
The problem is that I have set the forum lists page (my main page) to show the forum side bar but it still shows the blog sidebar.
If you look at these three links it will show what I am trying to explain. (I’m currently building this forum. You can’t see it from the main menu)
http://what-do-christians-believe.co.uk/wp/ (blog set up)
http://what-do-christians-believe.co.uk/wp/forums/ (page with wrong menu)
I have tried changing the default sidebar in the settings > sidebar but that doesn’t work either.
All I was doing was following the video instructions. He mentions that you should put the forums index etc on a page as you get better editing options.
I haven’t put the forums, topics or posts on a page yet because of this problemIn reply to: I have 2 root menus showing for the forums list
i’ve just tried saving form_rr after the wp/ in the page directory and adding a http link in the menu for that page. I still get the same result.
Must be a bug. I’ve just posted a topic that is a lot longer than this one and it was OK.
I forgot I’ll install the plug you recommended now.
I’ve deleted your user account etc.
I did reply to a post earlier as they seemed to be experiencing a problem that I experienced. Asked them to switch to a bbpress theme. I might have a go at a few more once I’m up and running.
I’ll close this now.
I’ve watched the video. I see what the problem is now;
I started at the forum level because I thought category was specific to wordpress. I need to move everything up one level.
If tags can be changed fair enough. I was concerned because the originator name for the topic was “the north face jackets” which isn’t me.
Oh I forgot. The bbpress forum that I am making isn’t in the menu. The one in the menu is symposium. I am hoping to change them over in the next day or so.
I have created some forums and topics by working down the menu list;
new forum, new post and new reply.
There are 2 issues
when I create a topic I write the header and the details on a page.
i.e. Topic header; finding out about Christianity
On the page I write a summery: post your questions about Christianity
This is the link to the page;
When I create a reply it seems to be appended to the topic page. No reply title is displayed. This concerns me as it would be very difficult for users to find the reply etc.
You can see this on this link;
I’m confused because when I create a reply in the admin panel you use the page layout which includes a title. You don’t see this in the forum.
The forum is instalation
The topic is titled
Unable to display bbpress forum in wordpress
It says that it was posted 2 days ago. it was longer than that. I have resolved that problem.In reply to: bbpress & WordPress
I don’t know what theme you have but at the moment bbpress only works in theme twenty ten 1.2.
I posted some of my issues on wprdpress because they weren’t answered and still haven’t been onbbpress. if you read this websites documentation it does say that you can post into the wordpress forum.
The issues that have yet to be resolved are still;
1. I can’t access my bbpress admin panel, dashboard or whatever you call
it. I keepm getting unregistered user messages. wordpress did show to me
that my bbpress profile exists.
My profile is tony webb and my forum is what do Christians believe.
2. Whenever I log into this forum I have to reset the password. I cut and
paste the previous password but this gets rejected. it also seems that
the check box when ticked doesn’t work as my password info isn’t saved.
Thank you for your reply.
The version that I have is version 2.0
I have integrated my forum into wordpress (plugins) and changed my wordpress theme to 2010 so that it is bbpress friendly.
I’m having problems setting that up but I noticed this evening that a sticky has been posted saying that there is an an online video tutorial available. I’ll watch that and follow what it says and then get back with any problems if any!
I’ve also changed my theme to a bbpress friendly theme twenty ten which has resolved the issue of my forum being cut off on the right of the screen. (I was using twenty eleven which although wordpress says that it is bbpress friendly it requires a lot of fiddling about to set up correctly)
For some reason bbpress defaulted to an old wordpress account (which i assumed had been removed) and since then I have not been able to log into the bbpress admin panel for food for thought. The old wordpress blog issue has been resolved but from the bbpress side of things I am unable to access my dashboard. When I log in I get unregistered user notices.
I need to use the bbpress admin panel to reorganise how I have set things up. I have done it completely wrong. The topics that I have created should be the categories or the forums (subjects that appear on the main forum page) and not as sub categories under one main subject.
It just seems to me that all I need is for bbpress to recognise that I am a registered user. I tried opening another account but I couldn’t do that as it said that the user already exists!
