  • Thanks Gautam. That pllugin was easy to install. Unfortunately, I believe it uses phpmail, which we have turned off on our server b/c we use Google Apps for all our corp email.

Anyone know how to change the plugin to utilize 3rd party smtp?

What is the ‘trunk version’ of bbpress?

    Very good. Thanks very much!

OK, we fixed it. I’ll find out details and post later. See how it looks here: http://www.cwnp.com/forums

Our purpose in doing it is twofold:

    1. privacy/security, obvious reasons

    2. we just implemented the Leaderboard plugin found on bbpress.org so we can have a participation contest. Leaderboard by default shows username, which in our case is email.

Bottom line is we also require “nickname”, so we’ve used that instead.

Now, anyone know how to make Leaderboard a widget?

    In reply to: Email masked

Looks like we’ll have to figure out a workaround then. Email address is our users’ single login for our web site, forums, crm, etc. No getting around it. Wasn’t an issue with phpBB, even though any visitor could get any email address by right-clicking on the “email” button and then doing “copy link address”.

OK, more info: we’re completely integrated with WordPress. Our username for login is the user’s email address. Even when a visitor is not logged in, they can click on another user’s profile and view that user’s email address. Problem.

Similar request here: by default, anyone on any bbPress forum can click on anyone else’s profile and see their email address. Big privacy/security issue. How can you hide/mask all user’s email addresses?

I added the line above – php_value magic_quotes_gpc 1 – to .htaccess, but it had no effect at all.

    Next?

“bbPress and WordPress are not cross aware of role changes.”

So what is the point of WP/bbPress Integration plugin, in which you cross assign roles?

    In reply to: unescaped characters

I have the same problem. Brand new install with phpBB import. The import was a charlie-foxtrot of wild characters substituted for quotation marks, but all new posts insert the before every apostrophe. Looks like this:

    I’m looking to…

    I’d prefer an appliance

Even after I go in and edit the post to remove the it remains in the text of the post.

In reply to: bbPM blank page

I now have the same issue as @AdamBaird above. Any resolution?

In reply to: bbPM Private Messages

…still going…consider 2 previous posts before this one.

So I cleared out everything and started again. Made sure /my-plugins and /bb-plugins were both void of anything to do with bbPM. Check.

Reinstalled bbPM – the entire folder and contents – into /my-plugins/ check.

Go to bb-admin, plugins, and voila, it’s there in “Inactive”. Activate: “bbPM” plugin activated! Woo hoo!

But alas, upon refresh, shows up in Inactive and Active. Cool thing is, in the Active list, it gives me only the option to activate bbPM. So let’s try that: “bbPM” plugin activated! woo hoo!

But alas, no joy. Type new PM, guess at recipient username, SEND: blank page at http://www.mydomain.com/bbpress/my-plugins/bbpm/pm.php

I knew it couldn’t be as easy as the documentation said.

In reply to: bbPM Private Messages

So even though it gives me this error, “Private Messages” still shows up as an option in bbPress forums, even though I have deactivated the plugin.

So, what the heck, let’s try to send a PM. First, no user list, so I’m guessing I’ll just type the user’s name and see if it works. Test message took me to the following URL:

    http://www.cwnp.com/bbpress/my-plugins/my-plugins/pm.php

So I’ve put the entire contents of bbPM plugin into bbpress/my-plugins but it’s trying to operate pm.php from my-plugins/my-plugins.

Not to mention that bbPM shows up in both “Active” and “Inactive” plugin lists. DOH!

    Help?

In reply to: bbPM Private Messages

I got the same issue. I first put all of the contents of the folder bbPM into bbpress/my-plugins and got this message:

bbPM is installed in the “bbpress” directory. It should be installed in “my-plugins”

Then I put the actual folder itself into bbpress/my-plugins, but got the same result.

Glad to see things are still moving here. This thread was started 2 years ago, and is still active as of 3 months ago!

We’re trying to move from phpBB that we’ve had for 5 years to bbPress. obviously, the 2 databases don’t match at all. We found this script. Can someone please update on the best way to migrate from a very active phpBB forums to bbPress? Has there been any new updates to this script?

    Thanks.
