_ck_ – I’m using your skip-akismet plugin and thank goodness! At least my authors/moderators/admins are spared this.

Akismet is going absolutely bonkers on all nine of my bbpress and WordPress installs… it just started a few days ago. I thought maybe it was connected to skip-akismet, but some of the *press installs aren’t using skip-akismet and they are still having problems!

Yah I use Human Test – it’s great!

Ah ok, maybe it’s just me… I’ve had maybe 100 comments go into spam today!

Ah are you using an older version or theme? There have been some reports of the 39 year issue here:

Yah “Downloads per week” are displayed here:

    https://bbpress.org/plugins/

In any case, it’s more of an optics thing – I just worry that having the stats continually say “Coming Soon” hurts the credibility of the site.

    Looks good!! :-)

A word of warning: I used to use the Private Forums plugin, until one day the posts in the private forum suddenly became publicly readable to everyone! It actually happened to me 2x before I realized it wasn’t just a fluke. A number of other users reported similar problems:

    https://bbpress.org/plugins/topic/private-forums/page/4/#post-1621

I’ve had a lot more success using Hidden Forums:

    https://bbpress.org/plugins/topic/hidden-forums/

I’ve had that installed for a few months now, and it’s been rock solid. :-)

Nightgunner5 is right – you shouldn’t install them in the same directory. You have two real options if you’re using the same server for both:

    1) install the blog in the root and the forum in a subfolders

    2) install them both in separate subfolders

There’s a good explanation on why this all matters here:

    https://bbpress.org/forums/topic/wordpress-and-bbpress-integration-101#post-17412

Personally, I use a separate subdomain for each bbpress install… so I guess that’s yet another option. :-)

    Good luck!

Hey Kevin! I completely agree on the 0.9 compatibility… Nightgunner5 was kind enough to convert his moderator suite plugin to also support v 0.9!

    https://bbpress.org/forums/topic/what-do-you-consider-an-important-action#post-28517

I’ve installed and tested it on three separate 0.9 bbPress installs, and it’s working great. :-)

I know what you mean kevin… that drove me crazy too!

Try this plugin by ck – it lets you click checkboxes and select batch actions, like marking a bunch of messages all at once as spammed or deleted:

Yah I can do all that account stuff myself… it’s just starting to take a half hour a day or so, so was starting to think about self-serve options… :-)

    Thanks for the feedback!

I guess for the username/password stuff, I’m just mentioning what we get emails from our users about. We get requests almost every day from users who forgot their username or want to reset their password.

Rather than deleting the account, maybe a username shutdown would be a good compromise? The account would have signin disabled, and the profile would show “this username has been shut down”. Old comments from that user would still appear on the site, and link to the “shut down” profile page.

Installed the latest version (0.1-beta1) – the new location is great!!

I’m not seeing the ?view=all appended to deleted/spammed topics in the mod log… but maybe I don’t have the latest version. Will try again later!

A good role manager would be awesome. Right now I have to create a new plugin every time I create a new Role… kind of a pain.

If someone took the existing PM code and then refactored it and removed security holes… that would be huge. It’d be particularly awesome if it used the same database model, so the old PM’s were still readable! I’ve heard BuddyPress is working on a PM plugin, so I was considering just switching over to that (if I could use it without installing BuddyPress).

The Avatars plugin out there is hard to configure (there are at least 3 separate files you have to install in different places), and it dumps all avatars in a single folder (not sure if that scales). It’d be fantastic if someone could clean that up.

Fundamentally, bbPress needs better user account management. Users can’t easily reset their passwords or look up their usernames… and there’s no ability to change or delete your own username. Those would be huge additions.

    Thanks for asking!!

Just installed this on a live forum! A bit nervous, but everything seems to be working great so far. :-)

    A few questions/thoughts:

    * The Moderation Log lives under the Users tab… what do you think of putting it under the Plugins or Manage tab?

    * When a topic deletion is logged or marked as spam, the moderation log says, Username (key) deleted topic “Topic Name” which is great. It’s linked directly to the deleted topic though – maybe there could be an extra ?view=all appended to it?

    * Is it possible to also log when topics are closed and opened?

This is super exciting – thanks for all of this!

There should be a pulldown on the bottom of the page that let’s you move topics? There’s a nice description of what it looks like here:

    https://bbpress.org/forums/topic/how-do-i-move-a-topic-to-another-forum#post-28004

Does the pulldown show up for you when you’re logged in as keymaster/admin/moderator?

    @johnhiler

    Member

    1. Ah thanks for adding that!! Boo for bbPress having no hook for moving topics…

    2. Ah so sorry to have missed that… :-)

One last thought: what do you think of merging the various moderation logs into a single page? As a keymaster/mod, it’d be a lot easier to monitor what’s going on on the site if all the logs are on the same page.

Or maybe as an alternative, the various moderation logs could all have convenient links to each other?

ps I owe you a contribution – please email me at john at weddingbee dot com, and we can coordinate!

Just installed the latest development version on 0.9 – it looks like it’s working!!

    Two quick questions:

    1. Where is the moderation log for moving/deleting topics?

I activated all four parts of the moderation suite and then moved one topic and deleted another. Then I started digging around for a moderation log, to see if they showed up… I found a moderation log here, under the users tab:

    /bb-admin/admin-base.php?plugin=bbpress_moderation_suite_modlog

I didn’t see a log of the topic moving or deletion though… are those logged somewhere else? I must be looking in the wrong place.

    2. How do users Report another user

I didn’t see a place where users could report another user… is there a tag for that I should stick in the template?

I *really* love the idea of being able to warn and ban users – for now, I’ve been PM’ing users manually which is a real drag! Thanks for porting this to 0.9!!

Ah that’s too bad – I’m using way too many of _ck_’s plugins to try 1.0 yet. I’ll wait til it comes out of alpha maybe.

Would you consider converting it to 0.9 in exchange for a contribution? It’d be great for the community, since so many people are still on 0.9:

Any chance of supporting 0.9.x? I’d love to try the plugin out!

    * moving a post

    * changing the status of a post (marking it as spam, deleting it, unspamming/undeleting it)

    * editing a post maybe? well especially if it isn’t your own…

That’s all I can think of for now!

Yah I definitely agree! You have to be pretty computer literate to use bbPress… and there isn’t great support, other than us volunteers.

But it’s like that quote from Churchill: “Democracy is the worst form of government except all the others that have been tried.”

bbPress is the worst message board software ever – except for all the others I have ever tried. :-)

Hmm, those are the versions that I think these plugins were designed for.

Is it possible you’re using seamless integration? Other users have reported similar problems between Freshly Baked Cookies and seamless integration:

It sounds like your server is using PHP4?

    https://bbpress.org/forums/topic/warning-cannot-yet-handle-mbcs-in-html_entity_decode

If you upgrade to PHP5, it should work! :-)

What versions of bbPress and WordPress are you using?

Hmm, I’m not sure what you mean. 0.9 supports sub-forums already… and I believe 1.0 supports categories and sub-categories (i.e. non forum categories).

What was the patch you found?
