In reply to: Install Breaking Site
When I activate BBPress, every page of my site shows a message similar to (the only difference is the URL of the page I am trying to get to):
> The website encountered an error while retrieving> http://www.mysite.com/wp-admin/plugins.php. It may be down for> maintenance or configured incorrectly.
If I deactivate BBPress (by renaming the directory – because every page of my site gets the error above), then deactivate each of the plugins, and then reactivate BBPress … then BBPress works.
The moment I try to reactivate one of the other plugins, it breaks again.
If you aren’t getting the error … could it be a template issue (I wouldn’t think so)?Or, could it be something server-based, with the webhost?
In reply to: Install Breaking SiteMy specific problem was listed in my first post. As outlined as it can be…

That’s my problem. Anyone have a solution, other than sacrificing one plugin for another?
In reply to: Install Breaking SiteThe chance that each plugin happens to do that? And how long til they do? Not a chance.
I just tried Mingle Forum instead, and that works fine with all of my other plugins. Sorry bbpress, but you don’t play nice with others. This is the third site that I tried using bbpress with, and its always been the same issue (but with different plugins).
In reply to: Install Breaking SiteI checked all the plugins … There are several that cause the site to break, when used in conjunction with bbpress… They include:
- Redirection
- Search Everything
- The Event Calendar
- WordPress DatabaseBackup
The calendar plugin is very important to the site. Redirection and Search Everything aren’t mandatory, but they are useful. The DB Backup I can do through PHPMyAdmin, so that isn’t important.
Is there a way to get the site working WITH these other plugins?
In reply to: Forum Order…I’ve given up on using BBPress, and installed phpBB instead. Was having too much trouble customizing it for my needs. phpBB has alot more functionality that I needed and was easier to administer.
No more need to reply to this post. Consider it closed.
In reply to: Customized registration form – hide fieldsI gave up on BBPress, and just used PhpBB instead. It does everything I needed and was easy to setup. Also, BBPress has pretty poor support, and I’ve run into a ton of issues and customization difficulties with it.
In reply to: Forum Order…As mentioned in the 3rd post of this forum … I’ve use the order field. It sorts them correctly in wp-admin …. just not on the page.
In reply to: Forum Order…When using BuddyPress with BBpress, it acts all screwy…
[bbp-topic-index] and [bbp-topic-form] both show “BLOG ARCHIVES NOT FOUND” when I use those short codes:
http://montecristoowners.com/topics/
[bbp-login] and [bbp-lost-pass] don’t work at all. Just show the title of the page … with no content at all.
[bbp-register] is the only one that works, pointing the user to registration page.
In reply to: Forum Order…Also, I’m using BBpress 2.0, and haven’t enabled the BuddyPress forum component. So, BBpress should be handling the forums, and the order, correct???
In reply to: Forum Order…Well… that sucks. Then why is there an “order” field when you create or edit a forum/category? Also seems a little odd that they let you put things into a category, and then just shuffle things around. Makes no sense to have categories then.
If there is no way to sort the fields (either by modifying the query, or by using some code to tell the site what order to put them in)… then, does anyone know how to hard-code the forum page (without messing up the rest of the forum functionality)?
In reply to: Shortcode for Register not working….Yup, I’m not logged in.
What are the other short codes?
In reply to: 2.0 – Custom registration fieldsI did a search in PLUGINS on this site, and didn’t see a BuddyPress plugin. So, I did a web search for it. Is BuddyPress the social networking WordPress plugin? Does it tie in to BBPress 2.0 easily? Or is it something extremely difficult to do? Do the bbpress short codes (for creating a register page) still work with BuddyPress?
Also, the required or optional option is good. Is there a way to make fields that are HIDDEN from the public?
In reply to: Change Registration text and Confirmation pageAny idea how to do this via bbpress 2.0?

In reply to: Customized registration form – hide fieldsJust upgraded the forum to version 2.0… Hoping that there would be a solution for this built into it’s core. Nope. Anyone have any idea how to do this for 2.0?
In reply to: bbPress 2.0 plugins? Also looking for this answer. It would be great to be able to search the PLUGINS by version as well…
In reply to: Customized registration form – hide fieldsAnyone out there?
In reply to: Customized registration form – hide fieldsI’m assuming there is a page that shows the content of the PROFILE … and, using PHP, we should be able to choose which fields are shown. So, for each field we want to hide, we could do something like:
IF field_name exists, THEN “do not print” field_name
Unfortunately, I don’t know bbPress too well to know which pages to edit, and my PHP coding is VERY poor. Please help if you can. Thanks.

I hate to bump posts, but I really need a resolution for this…

In reply to: Approve Members who can postLooked around. There is a plugin called “Approve User Registration” but it doesn’t work. I ran a bunch of test registrations, and never received any emails. Guess it’s outdated.
I also tried the “Private Forums” plugin, but I couldn’t get that to work either.
So, I downloaded the plugin ROLE MANAGER.
https://bbpress.org/plugins/topic/role-manager/
Using that, you can create many roles for people. I duplicated my “member” role, then changed some of the restrictions.
So, I have a “member” who could read everything, but not post.
And a “verified member” who could post. So, when I get someone that registers, I can change their role manually and make them verified.
I’m checking to see if this plugin works well with the “New User Notification Email” plugin. If that works, then I will get a new email whenever someone registers.

In reply to: Move FORUMS above LATEST DISCUSSIONSGotcha. I changed front-page.php … and that worked.
Why do I need to change forum.php? Didn’t see anything related there. Doesn’t that just list the topics in a specific forum?
