    Thanks for the additional information.

If you’re using Windows locally, there was an old bug that was resolved, but I think there might be a new one. It had something to do with the slashes being forward or backward, and subdirectories.

Maybe this one is more current:

OT: Why would you use a testing environment that is different from where you are going to host? It introduces all sorts of other variables that you end up trying to fix that ultimately don’t matter on the final host. Whenever possible, the testing environment should be identical to the final host environment.

But, I think the issue you are having is due to it being on Windows. I’ve seen it reported a couple times, I just can’t find the exact ticket I am recalling.

bbPress is not a plugin for WordPress. Is that where you installed it, as a WordPress plugin? It won’t work like that.

You could use an older version of PHP or host it somewhere else. I know that trac ticket is being looked at.

What do you mean “nothing” appears? Blank screen or 404 from your WordPress site? Or something else? How about the URL where you are trying to install?

You can use a subdomain if you like, but it’s not necessary. You have a more basic problem.

That’s a good point. You had all categories but no forums so there was no place to create a new post. Good to learn about that one.

There was a bbPress Wiki Post plugin for up to 0.9:

If you want the issue to be addressed, it needs to be in trac. If it’s not there, it will probably not be worked on.

They are looking into making that happen:

Did you enter that at trac? If not, please do so. I am trying to get things fixed in core before we go ahead and add any new features. So, it’s best that problems be reported in trac, and people comment on the tickets there (i.e. they can or cannot reproduce the problem). Thanks

Looks like you are using a modified template maybe? If so, please try the default, unmodified template.

If you are already using the included kakumei template, make sure all the files were properly uploaded. It looks like some things are missing.

If you haven’t done too much work yet (either modifications or posting) I would just save the bb-config.php and delete everything else, then reupload all the bbPress files and try accessing the forum again. It just doesn’t look complete.

If you did anything other that just install the bare bones bbPress, please post here what you did. Things like integration, modifications, 1-click install from your host, anything interesting about your hosting setup. Thanks

kjg (sorry, too tired to type):

    see this http://www.lawserver.com/forums/

Do the totals work the way you want for forums/parents/subforums? That is bbPress installation I integrated with Joomla of all things. I believe I fixed the problem with a plugin or some custom code so if this is the end result you’re looking for, let me know and I will look back at how I did it.

I doubt that the log out link got a target of “_blank” since it is processing posts only, but it would be good to check to see if it did have a target attribute.

Most of the times I’ve gotten a Save As dialog instead of displaying a PHP page, it’s been a server issue. There is generally nothing in the page that is sent from the server, but it always seemed to be intermittent enough that I couldn’t reproduce it. If you can get it to happen all the time, that would be great for troubleshooting.

kjg, so the example posted there is an example showing the problem, correct? 0 topics, 0 posts but there are actually maybe 3 topics and 8 posts in subforums?

    > Why not just include the majority of them

Finite resources. WordPress didn’t become great by cramming a bunch of features in. WordPress is great because of the ability to add plugins and themes. Any feature you want, and any look you want, is available in WordPress using a plugin or a theme. If there needs to be a new hook added to WordPress to allow a plugin to accomplish something, they generally do it.

It’s taken WordPress a long time to incorporate into the core a lot of things that used to be plugins, and maybe should still be plugins. bbPress is nowhere near that stage yet.

    > What’s wrong with that?

Again, the only thing wrong is that there are finite resources and there needs to be a good case made to devoting resources to adding new features to bbPress. There’s nothing preventing anyone from developing FB Connect as a plugin for bbPress. If there’s an itch, someone will scratch it.

I think they’re useful for different things. A forum is more than just the software that runs it, it’s a community.

It was _ck_’s work, her post just happened to be mangled by bbPress and become unusable.

There is no script I know of to migrate from IPB to bbPress.

There are themes available but finding them is a little difficult right now. They are scattered about, not in one central repository as with WordPress.

If you feel it’s a bug, I encourage you to open a ticket at http://trac.bbpress.org

hpguru, I would open a ticket at http://trac.bbpress.org

I’ve seen that here too. As moderator, I can see the link, but I can’t actually access it and it responds as you describe.

Also, what I am using doesn’t differentiate between internal and external links. I imagine the other solution there that DOES differentiate could be fixed by correcting the ‘missing’ $1 or $2 as the case may be.
