I decided last night after seeing some bug reports from people testing my plugins that I needed a more conventional bbpress install that I could test my plugins as well as other people’s.

So I started this little site:

I purposedly used low end (slow) hosting since my other sites are on high end setups. This way I can get a feel if anything is slowing bbpress down.

On the site you can preview my

bbPress Signatures and bbPress Polls plugins

by making a test account.

I’ve also activated “My Views” (which only works on 0.8.2.x for now)

The goal was to stay as close to bbpress’s default template as possible but after a few hours the bright white was burning my eyes so I had to tone it down. I’ll probably have to revisit that and work on the colours a bit, it’s far too flat right now, sorry.

Since this host has no web compression options, I’ll be releasing another mini plugin today after some more testing: bbpress gzip. It will let you compress bbpress pages via php and save on bandwidth, even if your host doesn’t have mod_gzip or other options available.

right now i tried to upload and run bbpress but no sucess i dont know how to do it.

please can the bbpress people give fantastico install on bbpress on hostmonster as they have wordpress

the hostmonster suport has told me to ask help in bbpress

I am new to bbPress and have spent most of this weekend trying to get it installed and running on a site I am trying to roll out.

Here is a synopsis of where I am beginning from:

-Shared hosting account on HostGator

-Currently run 3 other sites all running WordPress

-All 3 sites run from 3 different DB’s named uniquely

-Never had a problem with any of the 3 sites

-I am not a WordpPress expert by any stretch of the definition

What I am trying to do:

-On a 4th site, I am trying to install bbPress to create a community forum.

-Eventually I would like to integrate it with WordPress, but I would like to get grounded in bbPress first.

Issue:

Every time I install bbPress, I can get the site to come up but when I click on any of the links (like trying to drill down into a topic), the URL changes but the content is always the homepage. I am able to login to the admin screen, but I can’t ever make any changes within it. I can add new topics and they display, but I can never drill into it so I can read the content or add replies.

Any ideas what I am doing wrong?

I tried searching the forums for the answer so if I completely missed it if you could point me in the right direction that would help. Any help or advice you can give is appreciated.

Hi everyone, I’m a bbPress newbie and have recently installed it along side my WordPress blog and followed the basic integration steps in the docs here. My WP blog is the home of my site and I have a link to the forums similar to this site after customizing the themes for both. I’ve removed the login/registration links from WP (anyone can comment) and users can log in from the bbPress login form if they’re at the forums.

What I’d like to have is that same bbPress login form show up in my WP page so that if users are logged in they get the welcome/view profile otherwise they can log in/register from anywhere on the site. I want all registration to happen through bbPress that way users aren’t confused by two login systems/profiles. I’ve been following alot of integration topics here and haven’t found one that answers this question for me so please let me know how this might be done or if it’s not a good idea for reasons I haven’t thought about.

Also, I don’t know any PHP but I can code in other languages. I’m not familar with any functions in bbPress or WP for that matter so hopefully this isn’t that involved but I’m definitely interested in learning. Just thought I’d give some heads up.

I’m trying to write a better quote plugin, but I’m still trying to figure out where to hook this in.

I’m thinking that the quote button will post back the topic page in order to fill in the previous post into the reply box. This is pretty standard for other forums.

While I might also add an ajax mode, I’d prefer to start off with a post back.

I’ve been having problems to translate bbpress since I integrated the forum with wordpress.

In particular I’m having this error;

Fatal error: Cannot redeclare class CachedFileReader in wampwwwwordpressbbpressbb-includesstreams.php on line 163

whenever I try to define a lenguage in config.php -> define(‘BBLANG’, ‘es_ES’);

I was suggested to redirect to wordpress mo file -> define(‘BBLANGDIR’, ‘../wp-includes/languages’);

and then editing this mo file with poedit.

Well, I’ve been messing with poedit but I didn’t change bbpress config.php yet or included any language file for bbpress anywhere.

I went to bbpress control panel to activate the new signature plugin and I find that a line of the menu (and just one line, the rest are still in english) is already translated to spanish, this one;

I admit that I’ve been very busy and I even admit that a was drinking some beers this evening but, what the hell did I do? I can’t rember!. I’ve been unsuccesfully trying to translate bbpress for a month and now bbpress started to translate all by itself?

Yeah, it’s pretty niche, but there are a lot of art teachers out on the web, and not a whole lot of places for them to converse. bbPress has allowed me to provide the hands-down best-looking and best-behaving forum for them. I’m doing my best to get the word out now. I’ve had a few bites, but it’s slow-starting. Any ideas for further promotion would be much appreciated.

I am pleased to announce a new bbPress Polls plugin.

Your members can now add polls to their topics, or optionally you can allow *anyone* to add a poll to *any* topic, within a specified time period (hours) since the topic was started.

bb-Polls allows single answer or multiple answer polls.

No template edits of any kind.

There are no additional db tables added, it uses bbpress topicmeta only. Only one entry is created per poll, regardless of size or options (this allow very easy cleanup if desired for some reason).

This is a *very* early beta, however should be functional except for:

1. missing admin menu (coming soon – edit plugin directly)

2. missing administrative editing of existing polls.

3. missing some visual tweaks (plural case, etc.)

4. missing some more deluxe options (poll ending time, etc.)

5. missing multi-language support (coming soon)

(rename .txt to .php, install, activate, start a new test topic)

The beta is set so only moderators and above can create/see the polls. This will allow you to test without disturbing visitors.

Please note the visual styles may be WAY off for the default template or your own template. Unfortunately I am using a very customised template. You’ll probably have to edit the built in css which is kept clearly at the top. (the default styles will be fixed soon when I get a chance to do a trunk install this week)

Upcoming features include the ability to display all polls and the ability to display a poll anywhere within bbpress templates.

ps. I need to know if this works as in in the trunk version – I don’t see why it wouldn’t but you never know…

There is a hook so that, on plugin deactivation, you can do an action. In my case, I want to drop a table when the plugin is deactivated.

I can’t seem to get it to work. What am I missing?

Also where does $plugin come from? Do I need to set it or does it grab the plugin’s name? And same about __file__ I used the plugins php file for this. Is this correct?
