User can’t log in. Spaces in User name?

Published on March 27th, 2008 by

Recently installed bbPress. It’s integrated with an existing WP installation.

One of my main users has a user name with spaces:

‘John A Doe’

When he tries to log into bbPress, it tells him the user name does not exist. Oddly, in the box where he types in his user name, it changes the text he typed in to:

‘JohnADoe’ removing all spaces. If he puts the spaces back in, and his password, it simply tells him he doesn’t exist and removes the spaces again.

I went into WP to try changing his user name, but that field says ‘do not edit’ in the admin.

He is an admin in WP and a keymaster in bbPress as well.

Any ideas?

Email notification on Favorites

Published on March 27th, 2008 by

I really liked the idea behind this plugin: https://bbpress.org/plugins/topic/post-notification/

Unfortunately, when I installed it, it doesnt seem to send any notification if you favorite a topic.

The developer’s website also seems gone: http://www.la-school.com/2006/bbpress-notification/

Anyone have any ideas> I left a message on the plugin page, but dont see much traffic there.

I gave before setup new a chmod 777 to /forum/ but its the same problem.

I made the /forum/profile/ manual, but nothing change…

You appear to have already installed bbPress. Perhaps you meant to upgrade instead?

To reinstall please clear your old database tables first.

With every plugin I click to download, I get a 404. Is there currently issues with the DB or ftp I am missing?

Local Installation, Can’t Activate Plugins

Published on March 27th, 2008 by Daniel Quinn

I’m working with a local fresh install of bbpress and I can’t activate any plugins. (Whenever I click Activate, it says “Are you sure you want to do this?” and seems to be adding an extra backslash in the URL whenever I click YES). If I manually put the URL to activate into the browser without the extra backslash, bbpress spits out a fatal error and doesn’t activate the plugin. I’ve got bbpress working on my web server with all of the plugins, so it’s a problem with the local installation.

The local server is Apache and my config.php looks like this:

$bb->uri = ‘http://localhost/cindyfish’;

$bb->mod_rewrite = false;

(database is working fine, I can click all links in the forum)

I tried changing the uri to just http://localhost/, but then I can’t access the admin panel.

The only edit I made to the core was to modify:

$activetheme = bb_get_option(‘bb_active_theme’);

to

$activetheme = stripslashes(bb_get_option(‘bb_active_theme’));

as instructed in this post:

https://bbpress.org/forums/topic/theme-not-found-default-theme-applied#post-8889

…so I could get my custom theme recognized.

Any ideas?

EDIT: Actually, I CAN activate plugins if I manually paste the URL into the browser and remove the extra backslashes; it failed on the path to url plugin by nanome (https://bbpress.org/forums/topic/updated-to-desmond-but-theme-not-working/page/2)… would be nice tho to create a hack that could fix this for local installations on Windows

EDIT2: Okay, it also seems that bbpress adds the extra backslash only if the plugins are in individual folders. For plugins that sit just in the my-plugins folder, the local installation can activate them fine. Otherwise they have to be linked manually.
