Simple merge/export/import bbPress -> bbPress ?

Published on July 29th, 2010 by copperblade

I would like to merge a couple of forums. Right now, there’s about 3 or 4 topics worth that could be moved from the less-used forum over, and it would take care of everything. Is there already something that does this, or is this easy? I’m guessing those few topics probably have id collisions with the other forum.

I moved my forum from www.nissenfundoplication.com to www.nissenfundoplication.com/forum

The frontpage loads fine but clicking on any forum or topic link results in an error.

Password Protection Method – bbpress?

Published on July 28th, 2010 by pedagog

Hello all

Could you tell me which security type bbpress uses for password protection? Is it md5 and salt or something else. Also, in which file is the code located?

I’m working an integration with my own site – it’s not WP or any other. It is php that I have created.

Thanks in advance

Drop-down list for Sub-Forums?

Published on July 28th, 2010 by pedagog

Hi all

I have created ‘sub-forums’ under my main forums on the main page. I would like to try two options if it is possible. At the moment, when I create a ‘sub-forum’ it appears directly under the main forum, causing the page to become long.

1: Is it possible to have the ‘sub-forums’ appear as a drop-down after the main forum has been clicked – for example under a forum heading of ‘Sports’, rugby and football appear in a drop-down list as the sub-forums?

2: Would it also be possible to have the ‘sub-forums’ appear on another page that can be scrolled down?

Any help would be appreciated.

Many thanks in advance

Avatars not integrating from WordPress into bbPress forums

Published on July 28th, 2010 by a2vannoy

I’ve recently integrated a wordpress site I’ve been working on with bbpress to implement forums. Everything from styling to user login has come off pretty well, however, I’m still having an issue with the avatars not showing up inside the forums (bbpress). User integration seems to be setup correctly as login and profile info holds when switching between WP/bbP, but avatars are still showing up as ‘Mystery Man’ icon. Site can be viewed here:

Any guidance someone could offer would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

installation complete – but keeps returning to install.

Published on July 28th, 2010 by IAmediaworks

Hey folks.

Did a successful install – with one exception. It said that it couldn’t create the first forum.

I did get a confirmation mail.

But clicking on the link in the mail brings me to this:

Oh dear!

bbPress is already installed.

Perhaps you meant to run the upgrade script instead?

This happens whether I try to log into admin or visit the BBpress root.

This is installed on a fully functioning WP site.

Help?

Thanks!

Does bbPress use a database?

Published on July 28th, 2010 by Rubber

It doesn’t say anything anywhere on the website how the posts are stored. Does bbPress use a database or flat files?

Matching my WordPress Theme

Published on July 28th, 2010 by johncalvinhall

Hello,

I tired looking on the forums for an answer to this question, so if it’s a repeat, I apologize.

When I install bbPress will it automatically incorporate the theme of my WordPress Blog?

If not, is it difficult/ easy to have them match?

My goal is to make my web site, blog, and forums seamless.

Thanks!

Doesn't Play Well with Others

Published on July 28th, 2010 by johncalvinhall

Hello All,

I have setup a localhost on my computer. I am planning on migrating from wordpress.com and moving to a registered domain, and before I start shelling out the $$$, I would like to be somewhat familiar with what I am doing.

After installing PWS, I added WordPress software. Everything is working great, and I am loving what I see. Now I tried installing bbPress, so I can have a forum, and it is hairballing on me!

I am strongly suspicious that the problem lies somewhere with MySQL. I fill out the setup info, and it responds with:

There was a problem connecting to the database you specified.

Please check the settings, then try again.

Where do I find MySQL on my computer? Can I not have separate databases?

:sigh:

I am not a cyber-guru, and I am hoping that I don’t have to become one! :)

Any help you can provide would be great!
