Anonymous spam comments bypassing registration

Published on November 6th, 2013 by Jaina "Jazzy" Jaslyn

Our client is getting spam comments from a user named “Anonymous.” There is no user by that name registered. In fact, we have it set up so users MUST be registered to use the forums.

Any idea what could be going on? We haven’t had this problem for the 8 months of the forum being online, then we get 1 spam comment every couple days. Forum is hosted @ http://gpoguy.com/forums/

Thanks!

I just installed the bbPress plugin yesterday. It works great but the only problem I’m having is the text in the forums is grey and very hard to read. I cant find anywhere how I can change the color of the font to black.

Thanks.

Convert VanillaForums.com to bbPress

Published on November 6th, 2013 by Jack - BNFW

Hi,

I’m just doing some research for a client and they’d like to migrate all their content (forums, posts and users) from their VanillaForums.com account to bbPress.

I see that after bbPress has been installed, under Import > Forums in the WordPress backend there is an option to import from Vanilla but it doesn’t specify whether it’s their managed .com service or their self-hosted .org service.

Can someone tell me if it’s just one or the other?
If the case, how do I go about finding the database info for a VanillaForums.com account in order to import everything into bbPress?

Thanks for any help in advance,
Jack

Secure Individual Forums by User

Published on November 6th, 2013 by bemispromo

Hello,

I have a wordpress (3.7.1) site for a writing group with 700+ registered users. Most of the users have “Author” permissions (Because they contribute to the blog on the site.) There are a few editors who moderate the blog, and then a couple of admins.

bbPress (2.0) is installed on this site. The forums should be visible ONLY to those users who are logged in. Additionally there are a few forums which should only be available to select members. (Their board of directors and writers who are published, as two examples.) A user might be a member of both the Board and the Published Authors group, but won’t necessarily be.

I am looking for a plugin or a method for handling the security that will allow me to easily handle this. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks!

Default bbPress theme not working

Published on November 5th, 2013 by tristanojbacon

I have tried to install bbPress, but am having issues with the Forum Index page.
This is the forum index: Forums. However, the actual forums work fine, as you can see on a test forum I created called Suggestions.

Any ideas as to why it’s doing this? I’ve followed the few instructions I could find, including the page about Theme Compatibility. I added the bbPress theme files to my own theme, as suggested in those intructions.

Also, is there a way for the link to just be ‘http://thewhitesharks.co.uk/forums/suggestions/’ instead of ‘http://thewhitesharks.co.uk/forums/forum/suggestions/’? Seems a bit long to me…

How do I remove /forums/forum/name ?

Published on November 5th, 2013 by thgoogle

Hello all I am setting my forum with bbpress

I just checked /forums/forum/name (name is the forum name so let´s say general discussion) it does appear forums/forum/general-discussion

how do I simply remove the forum/ and just let it forums/general-discussion or remove the forums/genera-discussions and just leave in the singular word so it will be…

forum/general-discussion ? I´d be interested in have the links like forum/general-discussion and just leave it like that

Thanks

Change Buttons above the reply box

Published on November 5th, 2013 by DamoR75

Hi there,

I want to change the text in the buttons above the reply box, for example: I would like to change ‘b-quote’ to ‘block quote’.

Does anyone know how to do this?

I’m running WordPress 3.5.1 and BBPress 2.3.2.

Cheers,

Damian

Can a bbpress dev fork https://gist.github.com/bhwebworks/6146811 and modify to integrate with bbpress?
