I agree with you there, and I am hoping to improve where they failed

in the mean time, a shot of the BBPress forum index

Yes yours is tiny but clean (too clean for me personally), but I am trying to achieve a much more complicated website then that.

I am trying to recreate Facebooks functions and add extra functionalities like blogging, forums and detailed profiles for users to name a few

    Hi Q-Shadows

It is quite a list of plugins, some hardcoded into my child theme, others just as plugins.

    Plugins Installed

    BBpress
Rewrote most of the template files

    Buddypress
Version 2.1.1, tried updating yesterday but broke my site so have to rewrite my plugins before updating

    BBpress Like Button
    Likes for forums

    BP Profile Widgets
To show a music or video player on members profile

    Buddypress Activity Plus

    Buddypress Like
    For activity likes

BuddyPress Activity Stream Bump to Top
Liked and commented activity goes to top of list

    Buddypress Upload Avatar Ajax
To allow avatar upoad during registration

    Front-End Publishing
So members can write blogs without multisite activated

    GD bbPress Attachments
    For forum image uploads

    BP Profile as Homepage
All links to a user links to profile page instead of user activity

    Post rating

    WanGuard

And I have a few plugins hardcoded into my child theme, not sure about the names

    BuddyPress Group Customizer Lite
    For group backgrounds

    User Signature
For a signature on forum posts

    Easy View count
    displays views count on single-topic-list

BP custom background for user profiles
Or something like that to recreate the facebook/twitter function

And I added a lot more functions that I found through other members on these forums that have been added to my Functions.php etc.
Theme had had a lot of alterations since my last visit and is almost finished, have a look.

What would be the purpose?….really long titles will only look bad on site and have little to no SEO purpose I think.

And this is an article I made and published through previous page

Now I am working on the actual “articles” main page where there will be thumbs/excerpts for each article etc.

So here is my latest addition to Onlijn.com.
Something to separate it more from facebook, and I hope in a positive way.

I can now promote members to authors, who can create content for the site through the front-end.

For authors there is a new link in their menu from which they can access their “Onlijn.com Blogger” page.

This is the actual Blogger page I just finished creating
with lots of thanks to the maker of the Front End Publishing plugin

Th green labels are a lot easier on the eye then their Buddypress red counterparts

And these forums look good, I also agree with that, just those Category labels are ugly, but also understand their purpose.

    Hi Lynqoid

Yes, the landing page is very much a work in progress.

It is also the page where I am testing my @media queries on so lots of CSS problems.

If I knew how XAMPP worked I would develop sites local first, but I am a total noob and have chosen to build whilst live.

Every page is still under construction, but I aim to finish before the end of February.

I am adding a few more functionalities, like member blogs, and as soon as they all work as expected I can finalize the CSS.

    Thanks for the response.

I agree, plugins tend to break WordPress every now and then, but I did hardcode certain plugins directly into my child theme, these can not update unless I update them myself.

In my first 12 months of WordPress studies/experiments there were a lot ofplugins binned due to conflicts or outright fails.

It is the same with the Buddypress site, eyesore.

Not the way to get people to the right category but makes it clutered

Hi, thanks for the kind words, im humbled.

I am constantly working on this theme in my free hours, not knowing any php or javascript does not work in my favor and development speed is slow due to cutting an pasting till it works.

The actual BBpress forums look pretty cool I think, and these discussion boards are part of what seperates Onlijn.com from Facebook.

The new home / landing page
Logged-in mmbers will not see this page but get redirected to activity wall

    onlijn.com landing page

All Avatars and member names now link to their profiles instead of their activity.

    The extended profile page
Members can now share music/video and images in left sidebar through the frontend

Something else is wrong with your wordpress, it shows your name in the admin bar and menu items.

I see a menu with one link only called “sample page”, so the top menu is showing.

In your menu’s edit screen, on the list with pages etc on the left side of the screen, does it say “Forums”, should be under “pages” and “posts”

Instead of making your own link you should select the forums here and click “add to menu” if you want them in your menu

If there is no “forums” option then there is something very wrong with your install or theme.

You could add buddypress plugin to add more profiling options, I run both mainly for that reason on onlijn.com

You can see how I think the profiles can be improved here: my-profile

Although it is a large plugin that could add too many functions you do not need, maybe it is the answer you are looking for.

    Good luck

I see in chrome that the css class of logged-in is added to the body of your page

Somehow it thinks that I am already logged in

    @peter-hamilton

Also, visiting your site it says: Howdy Irb

Something has gone awfully wrong cause I am not Irb

I guess that you need to fix that and find your forums exactly where they need to be

    @peter-hamilton

    Participant

Sorry, dumb moment, so you have made 4 forums.

If you go to any of those forums through backend, can you press “view forum”?

    @peter-hamilton

    Participant

Have you created an actual forum through your backend?

Once you created a first forum you can go to appearances => menus
and add a link to your forum page to your menu there.

    @peter-hamilton

Nice one Robkk, that is very useful, how come I have not been able to find this as easy earlier i dont understand.

    @peter-hamilton

Another way to cheat a little is to make an actual page, call it yourdomain-forums

Then you could add the existing shortcode from BBpress like this

    <h1>title of category 1</h1>
    [bbp-single-forum id=XX]

    <h1>title of category 2</h1>
    [bbp-single-forum id=XX]

Then make a link in your menu to that page

    I am doing it here
