In reply to: Where can I download Human Test for bbpress?
They are both the same.
In reply to: What's happening with bbPress?thierryyyyyyy:
About the Canonical plugin story, you may want to read this: https://wordpress.org/development/2009/12/canonical-plugins/
Like I said, I don’t think it will be a standalone package as, just like other Automattic products, it will need to be a part of WordPress. Look at BuddyPress, for example.
I see. I haven’t searched for any Subscribe to topic plugins, so I don’t know of any good ones. Matt will be releasing that built-in with version 1.1 – so I’m not sure how long you can wait.
These are the plugins I am currently using: http://www.inniosoft.co.cc/Plugins.png
Some of them do not work, and one of them is mine (General Statistics), which at the moment, shows the newest users.
If you don’t mind, may I have the link to your forum? I’d like to have a look at it.
Peace, Michael
In reply to: Enable gzip compressionJust goes to show that I need to learn more PHP. Thanks for this, Chris. Quite handy.
In reply to: Enable gzip compressionYou should be able to see the version of PHP on the sidebar of your cPanel. Your host will most likely have upgraded to 5 by now.
You would also have to contact an administrator and ask if zlib is enabled. In most cases, it is.
By the way, the compression doesn’t completely speed up your website, it simple increases it’s performance. In some cases, one would notice a speed difference.
Is your website way too slow?
I am very glad it worked. Now I can finally see what your forum looks like.
If you need any help with customizing, don’t hesitate to ask.
I don’t want to be a show-off, but you might want to have a look at my forum to get some rough ideas – such as the way my table columns are structured etc.
Another thing to keep in mind: The ‘Add New’ link on the Latest Discussions table is not so much a great thing. If you like at the one on my forum, you’ll see that I have changed it to ‘RSS Feed’. I did this because people where simply adding a new topic from that link, and not choosing the correct child-forum for it to live in. So, now people have to navigate to their forum to create a new post.
Quite a nice thing to have – especially considering your forum doesn’t show only categories like mine does.
All the best
Michael
In reply to: Show logged in users posts at top of pageFirst thing’s first, you have a nice forum layout – I like the edits you have implemented.
There are quite a lot of options for you, and which ever one you choose should not make your forum look to ‘full’.
As Chris said, if you want to do it on the front page, it would be as simple as copying the loops that are run on the
profile.php
file inmy-templates
. There should be two – but I’m not sure. Don’t have access to my server right now.The other option is to create a view, just like The one’s displayed at the bottom of your front page. It would be quite a nice idea to create a view for the user’s latest topics and replies – thus having it on a separate page, but easy to get to as the view would be marked ‘See your Posts’, for example.
Now, unfortunately, I can’t help with the setting up of views (I would be able to if I had access to my server). At least you have some options on the table. There are some highly experienced members here that will be able to assist you in setting up a view.
Take care,
Michael
In reply to: Enable gzip compressionWhat version of PHP are you running? If you have PHP 4, then change
mod_php5.c
tomod_php4.c
.You should also ensure that zlib is installed on your server.
Citizenkeith: does it work on your side? I’d like to try this soon.
Have you tried manually editing the theme itself? Try changing the code in header.php within the theme folder.
If it’s not that, it would have to be something with the integration (which I highly doubt) – I do not have enough knowledge with that as I’ve never integated before.
Happy New Year
Michael
In reply to: Try out email subscriptionsVery nice. Now, will it support Permalinks?
Nice to see some changes happening.

In reply to: What's happening with bbPress?thierryyyyyyy:
A lot of ideas are being thrown around at the moment, and things are going slowly. It’s like that for a reason. The next version of bbPress will be one that is clean, robust, and easy to use.
At the moment, it looks like bbPress will become a canonical plugin for WordPress. As with most Automattic products, I think this was the idea in the first place.
Closer to the time, Matt will share updates as to a more narrowed path for bbPress.
In reply to: Member Subdomain PermalinksNot exactly sure how to do that – I don’t want to play around with it and mess things up. Could you give me some guidelines on how to approach it?
Michael
I haven’t seen this issue, but I must just say that you have done an awesome job of editing the forum to blend in with your site. Great work! I think you’ve inspired me to make some changes to my (very simple) one.
Peace, Michael
In reply to: Import from SmartMachines?Steven: Good idea – I think LeftCoastMichael should maybe wait until you do so that he makes no mistake.
In reply to: +/-, threading and anonymityI’ve also tried the warappable tables, but I’m not experienced enough to get it right.
Try this for anonymous posting: https://bbpress.org/plugins/topic/bb-anonymous-posting/
In reply to: Import from SmartMachines?I’ve never heard of a SmartMachines forum system – are you not talking about SimpleMachines?
EDIT: I see you are running SMF. Look into this page:
https://bbpress.org/forums/topic/import-smf-to-bbpress
I have not read it, but there may be some useful information.
In reply to: How about simple wiki pluginNot too sure what you’re getting at here….
In reply to: Support Forum IconsThe settings allow me to set the icons to on or off, but they do not appear for single tags.
In reply to: cannot post at all!Oh, and you don’t seem to have any forums – there are categories there…
In reply to: cannot post at all!Hi there
I don’t have access to my SQL database at the moment, but that could be the place where it checks to see if the forum is installed. Someone will probably have to check up on that one for me.
You should probably delete the SQL databases as well, and restart completely.
Peace, Michael
In reply to: bbTopic Icons – I recommendI haven’t tried that plugin yet – but does it apply to all the child forums, or the front page?
In reply to: bbTopic Icons – I recommendLooks like an awesome plugin – much better than the previous ones made.
I will implement as soon as I get my new laptop. (Using Linux Live right now as my HDD crashed…)
Also changing the icons. I’m glad this has been made.
In reply to: execute php code in bbpages editor. fast helpI thought there was something wrong with my ever-so-simple code. Would that page1.php be stored in the root?
In reply to: Activity StreamsI think the whole point is to make the forum a little more social. The aim is for it to be a little more interactive.
As it it stands, it is a forum. Forums should not necessarily have this kind of thing, but I don’t have many doors to open. I’m keeping it as a forum simply because it’s a community discussion forum. I would switch to BuddyPress, but I wish it was a standalone, and I would only do that if there was more to do within the community.
I would like to include a ‘small’ social networking layer on the forum – but with minimal coding changes. I don’t want to have to do way too much to implement the changes.
I’d like to have a few things included, once they are fully functional within the forum, such as status updates, additional profile information, photo album (maybe, not anywhere near the top of the list), and maybe even a paste bin (as it is a development forum).
The whole thing for me is to make the forum have ‘more’.
I agree that it should have a separate view, though I would rather create a seperate page (possibly with a plugin) for it. Part of the changes I need to make is putting a navigation bar in place of the login/user bar at the top to include this. It will also include the most important forums – something similar to the nav bar at GUI.Station.
