@Stephen Edgar, this plugin still works very nicely and flawlessly (in my Genesis theme), I am presently in the process of converting my website articles to bbpress…out of 400 posts I have so far converted 200 into bbpress…I have also applied some CSS to bbpress to make sure the “bbpres posts” wrap around the author name and is able to show full width, instead of showing only 50% in mobile devices.

The only problem with the plugin is that it does not have a bulk convert feature, and i have go to each and every post for the migrations.

It works wonderfully well in my genesis theme, the convert button shows just under the post titles….but not on other themes….
But the plugin does not have a bulk convert option, I have to go to each and every post and press the convert button for the migration

According to me “Responsive Theme” is the best theme for any forum based site, there are so many very useful SEO friendly options which normally other popular themes do not have.

One of them is Last updated date…and special bbpress theme layouts

…also now the “bulk edit” feature in posts gives an error

It does not work as it used to before.
    Here the faults:
    1) Under Settings > Discussions when I try to select the Forum, and click on “Apply settings to existing posts” it shows an error.
    2) When I go to the posts I find all the wordpresss comments removed, and no bbpress replacement
    3) However It works only if I edit individual posts and select the forum under the individual posts.

That means if somebody has 1000 posts he will have to edit 1000 posts for enabling the import?? How time consuming that will be
And during the time the individual posts are being edited the existing comments will remain hidden

Earlier this fault was not there, the import could be enabled for the all the posts with one click…

I am happy to see the plugin is updated…but sorry to say it doesn’t work now….before the update it was working wonderfully but now it is a mess (sorry to say this)

Yes after installing bbpress your plugin works, but it is not quite doing what we want.

It has options to migrate all wordpress comments to bbpress but it does not open this migration under the individual posts.

we want the forum to replace the wordpress comment section, meaning the existing comments should be be replaced with bbpress forum under all the relevant post, so that next time the user wants to comment he has to comment using the bbpress box under the posts.

I hope you can arrange this facility in your plugin…then it will be just great!!
    thank you very much.

Do you mean we must first have bbpress installed?…no I did not install bbpress, I directly installed your plugin first?

OK I’ll install bbpress first and then your plugin…let’s see.

sorry..this plugin not correctly coded, I got the following error message as soon as I installed..and I had to immediately deactivate it…

“The plugin generated 115 characters of unexpected output during activation. If you notice “headers already sent” messages, problems with syndication feeds or other issues, try deactivating or removing this plugin…”

    @Pascal…That’s great, thank you!

Let me check out this plugin, I’ll revert soon with the results and let everyone know whether it fulfills the required purpose of converting existing wordpress comment into bbpress comments.

By the way thanks very much for updating the plugin.

    see you all soon

    Update:

Sadly I have removed the set up…. because the bbpress topics for posts plugin seems to be too outdated and could have security issues…

I have found a way of implementing this, in fact this facility becomes readily accessible once you install and activate the plugin “bbpress topics for posts”.

here are the procedures to migrate your existing wordpress comments into bbpress forum interface, below each posts 🙂

install and activate plugins: bbpress, and bbpress topics for posts

go to settings > Discussions > bbPress Topics for Posts Defaults….now select the forum which you have created under “Create a new bbPress topic in”

and finally press SAVE at the bottom of the page.

wait it is not yet over.

go back again to bbPress Topics for Posts Defaults
and click on the new option which asks: “apply settings to existing posts”.

As soon as you do this all your existing wordpress comments will disappear, and you will see a bbpress forum box under each of the posts.

    DON’T PANIC!!!!!!!!!!

    Go to your wordpress dashboard

click on posts > all posts > tick on the box named “title” just below “Bulk Actions”

this will select all the posts on that page.

    now select “Edit” and Apply

a new window will open (we all know about this)…now simply PRESS the “update” button at the right hand side corner of this window.

Repeat this for each and every page in case you have a small number of posts on each page….or if you want to execute this at once, make sure to first select all the posts on the same pageby going to the screen options and selecting the total number of posts you prefer to include on that page

    BINGO!!!!

Go and check your posts you will find all your wordpress comments have been transferred into bbpress…

But will this have any SEO implications? I don’t know…
