In reply to: BBPress: No Support in the Forums
bbPress isn’t only an Automattic project, anyone is free to contribute their time towards improving any of the things mentioned above.
In reply to: Template files inheritanceChris – would probably need to access your installation and play with it. It sounds like everything should be working. This will also be easier in bbPress 2.1.
In reply to: bbPress 2.0 – Theme Compatibility^ Not very helpful criticism.
What didn’t you like? What was your experience? It’s very possible the problems you experienced weren’t even with bbPress.
In reply to: Minimum User Privilege Needed to Use ForumsThe forum participant role is only set for situations where you have a multi site install, and a global forum where users not explicitly part of that site are allowed to post. Basically, it mirrors the subscriber capabilities, and avoids having random users assigned as the default role for that site, which might be more capable than you want.
Can you explain a little bit more about your installation? Private/hidden forums, theme, etc?
@jermaine – Yours is the easiest conversion of all. Just opt to skip the user migration all together.
Correct. There can’t be any hard coded links anywhere, because all themes are different and will want them in different locations with different URLs. You can use the Login Widget that’s included to get you some of the way there, but even with widgets/shortcodes/templates it won’t satisfy everyone.

In reply to: active theme does not include bbPress template filesThis is changed in the in-development 2.1 version.
In reply to: More settingsLook in your Forum Settings again.
Create pages, use Shortcodes or Page Templates.

In reply to: Plugin does not activateI don’t understand what you mean by “no tables were created.” Do you mean database tables? If so, then that’s a good thing. Also do not understand what you mean by “path where the plugin is installed.” It’s installed in your plugins folder, which you do not access directly.
I don’t know why it’s a challenge.
They are two different pieces of software with two totally different purposes. bbPress isn’t “fully featured” forum software, just like WordPress isn’t a fully featured CMS. If you want bells and whistles, there are plugins for that.
In reply to: Forum index is OK but each topic leads to blank pageWhat theme are you using? It’s possible that it just isn’t compatible with bbPress. Do they work if you switch back to another theme?
In reply to: Forum index is OK but each topic leads to blank pageTry visiting your permalinks page and saving them.
In reply to: Error message when activating bbpress in WordPressThe server your clients site is on doesn’t have enough memory allocated to PHP. If they are paying you to fix it, they are trusting you to know how to fix it. A google search for PHP memory issues will be the most helpful to you.
In reply to: Best bbpress solution now ?Yes.

You need to actually do your query loop, probably using bbp_has_posts()
The if ‘forum’ == bit will always equal true, so you can remove it.
In reply to: bbPress 2.0 – FAQ@monoman – If WordPress is installed in a physical folder named ‘blog’ you won’t be able to easily put bbPress in any other folder. There are advanced ways of making this work, but you’d want to hire a pro to make it go (or do some digging into moving your WP install and/or sharing user tables between installs.)

Something in your theme’s CSS is coded for comment replies and bbPress is picking it up. This has happened to a few others, and I’ll be tweaking the default theme to prevent this in 2.1.
In reply to: Spam, and other issuesDan. Care to update if anything has changed since you pinged the Akismet crew?
Not finished yet, so don’t expect them to work until beta.
There are bound to be other forum themes and plugins for WordPress, and they are welcomed; variety is the spice of life and all that.
It’d be great if their time was instead spent on improving bbPress, but I understand that contributing to another project outside of their control isn’t what a lot of people want to do. bbPress is the best opportunity of all the .org projects; the audience is small so the ability to shine is huge. Big fish, small pond.
I’ll add that if it’s bbPress or anything else, you’re still placing your trust in someone to do something that you aren’t. I work closely with the WordPress core team on almost a daily basis to ensure that both BuddyPress and bbPress are as secure and functional as possible, push updates out quickly when needed, and manage the support forums and sites as well.
Anointed is correct that WordPress 3.3 addresses any performance issues with permalinks in WordPress. I’d go as far as to say that you DON’T want your forum area to use a date-based structure because the date would be based on the topic creation date and not the most recent replies. You risk your topics being intermingled with your blog, which will be confusing to most users.
