Olaf – as I understand it, the next version of bbPress is going to be a point release that builds on the last version… with some bug fixes along with a few features added directly to the core.
I saw some discussion that the canonical plugin approach would be for a later release… so I’m guessing there’s no real information on it yet.
If you’re looking for a sneak peek into bbPress’ plugin future, you might want to install BuddyPress and see how they’ve solved these problems.
It’s my understanding that bbPress plugins will become like BuddyPress plugins: a series of plugins on WordPress MU. BuddyPress plugins need to be “BuddyPress aware”, so that the BuddyPress plugin loads first:
https://codex.buddypress.org/how-to-guides/make-your-plugin-buddypress-aware-v1-2/
_ck_ stated her reasons here… the primary reason given was “[t]he removal of Sam Bauers and the halting of bbpress.org 2.0 “.
In reply to: trunk or 0.9?I would also recommend starting on 0.9… you can’t downgrade, but you can always upgrade.
In reply to: RSS Feed for every entryThere should already an RSS feed for all posts to your site!
Here’s the link to the one for this forum:
https://bbpress.org/forums/rss
I think I found your forum – in which case, this should be the RSS feed for all your posts!
In reply to: Topics-in-tag count incorrectHave you tried a recount?
In reply to: bbvideo stopped working for meIt looks like someone has built a *press module/plugin of some sort which allows users to vote on compatibility:
https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/stats/
But nothing like that exists on the bbPress plugins side of things.
The bbPress Plugins install actually has a separate signin cookie from the forums – even if you’re signed in on the forum side of things, you won’t be signed in here:
Plus, the “stats” tab has been “Coming Soon” for at least two years:
https://bbpress.org/plugins/topic/delete-all-bozos/stats/
All these things exist on the WordPress side of things, so I’m guessing it’s a matter of lack of resources and/or a lack of prioritization.
In reply to: bbvideo stopped working for meI guess it’s possible that a third plugin could cause two other plugins to stop working… especially if they all share a setting or something. It’s hard to tell without digging into the specific code for each plugin!
Are you ok with not using Easy Twitter Links?
In reply to: bbvideo stopped working for meIf you confirm that bbvideo is still active… then the only other thing I could think is the standard 1-2:
1) Deactivate all your other plugins, and see if it works now.
2) Activate Kakumei and see if that helps.
If both of those don’t work, then it’s not a plugin or theme conflict… so I’d have to ask then, what changed between now (when it doesn’t work) and then (when it did)?
In reply to: Old VersionWait, where is it strongly recommended to use 1.0 over 0.9.6 for security reasons?
The 0.9.x branch has been around for a lot longer. 1.0 hasn’t been out for that long, and the primary developer hasn’t been around to root out and/or patch any security issues.
I’m not saying that 1.0 is insecure – just that there’s nothing inherent about 1.0 that makes it more secure cuz it’s more recent.
Isn’t this a BuddyPress install?
In reply to: Old VersionThe 0.9 version is available at the bottom of the download page!
If you posted it and it didn’t work, your post may have been flagged as spam? Akismet is notoriously heavyhanded if your post has multiple links in it.
Maybe try posting your problem there again, but without including any links to your site? Or if you have to post a link, only post one link?
In reply to: Which plugins do you recommend to use? Here are the instructions on installing plugins!
Can you link us to your profile on BuddyPress?
In reply to: Which plugins do you recommend to use?The original poster specified that s/he “would like to allow users to upload pictures and files to articles and pictures to their profiles!”
So I figured the stars referred to plugins that would enable picture/file uploads to posts and the profile!
In reply to: No auto bbPress installerIf you’re using buddypress, I think it installs its own version of bbPress all on its own to use for its own forums?
In reply to: Issue with ck's Unread PostsHey CitizenKeith… do you have a diff program like Beyond Compare?
http://www.scootersoftware.com/download.php
You can compare Kakumei to your current theme, to isolate exactly what’s changed… then update your theme with whatever changes look “suspicious”.
It’s saved me on more than one occasion!
In reply to: How can I move threads?Just edit the first post in your topic/thread… that will allow you to edit the title.
In reply to: How can I move threads? There’s no way to move topics using the admin interface, as I understand it.
You have to be looking at the topic on the website… and then there should be a pulldown next to some text that says, “Move this topic to the selected to forum:”. Select the new forum and click Move – that should do the trick!
It looks like you’re using Buddypress… you might want to post your question here:
https://buddypress.org/forums/forum/how-to-and-troubleshooting
In reply to: Try out email subscriptionsYah same here… looks like the bug is still unpatched:
In reply to: Starting New SiteThis should do the trick!
In reply to: Who can shed some light here? The user who reported that problem found this fix:
Fixed! You won’t believe what the problem was… The plugin was uploaded to “bbplugins” instead of “myplugins”! Apparently it makes a huge difference
Is it possible that your plugins are in /bb-templates/ instead of in /my-templates/ ?
In reply to: Issue with ck's Unread PostsHmm, I checked over all the comments here and didn’t see any similar reports:
https://bbpress.org/plugins/topic/unread-posts/
Have there been any changes at all to your theme or plugins recently? Also: if you use kakumei and deactivate your plugins… is the bug still popping up?
