In reply to: read only forums?
Ah yah, this plugin doesn’t seem to work in 1.0:
https://bbpress.org/plugins/topic/read-only-forums/
Your best bet is to ask or hire someone to upgrade the plugin to support 1.0? The number of changes needed is probably fairly low…
Or there’s always the ultra-hacky solutions!
1) If your entire forum is read-only, you could hide the “Add New” link from your template, and only share it with people you want to post into your forums!
2) If you only want specific forums to be read-only, you could turn them into a “Category”. Then nobody can post into those forums… but when you want to post, you could just change it from a Category back into a forum temporarily.
In reply to: Can't edit user profile anymoreUse a program like Beyond Compare to compare (or “diff”) the default theme versus your custom theme:
http://www.scootersoftware.com/moreinfo.php
That should quickly identify the changes between the two…
EDIT: I must’ve left this comment *just* after you edited your previous comment! Glad it worked out for ya…
In reply to: Defining Integration, what it is, and what its not. It’s not so hard to integrate WordPress with bbPress 0.9. Although I do think you’re right that it’s easier to integrate WordPress and bbPress if you’re using the latest versions of both.
In reply to: bbPress as a WordPress Plugin – ThoughtsBuddyPress only offers one option: it’s a WordPress MU plugin, and can’t be installed as a standalone.
I think it’d be pretty tough to offer bbPress as both a plugin and a standalone… it sounds like the choice has been made to turn it into a plugin.
The only real way to keep it standalone would be if someone forked bbPress 0.9 or 1.0… that’s a lot of work though.
In reply to: Nominations for Project Lead? This project needs someone who believes in version 1.0, and the plan to turn bbPress into a WordPress MU plugin…
At this point, I just try to be helpful to our fellow users!
In reply to: Nominations for Project Lead?Chris is wonderful and I really like and respect him! But I don’t think he’s a programmer?
In reply to: What's happening with bbPress? What do you mean by “pull a chicken little”?
In reply to: What's happening with bbPress?BuddyPress has a lead developer – Andy Peatling:
http://apeatling.wordpress.com/about-me/
bbPress does not have a lead developer right now. Automattic founder and bbPress creator Matt Mullenweg ( http://ma.tt/ ) was hosting weekly bbPress chats and jamming out a few features along with another Automattic dev, but that stopped a while ago and we haven’t heard from Matt since.
It’s not likely that Andy is going to switch tracks and work on bbPress… he’s pretty focused on BuddyPress, and it has an ambitious product map that should keep him busy!
Maybe Matt will come back to us after his schedule clears up… we’ll find out soon enough!
In reply to: What's happening with bbPress?BuddyPress is a series of plugins on top of WordPress MU… I don’t think that’s going to change. In fact, that sounds like the new plan for bbPress: to become a plugin on top of WordPress MU.
In terms of BuddyPress versus bbPress: BuddyPress actually uses bbPress code to power its forums. So using BuddyPress isn’t exactly walking away from bbPress… bbPress comes standard with a BuddyPress install!
In terms of what you use to power your sites, it’s probably best to choose your software solution based on your needs. If you want a social network with blogs thrown on top, BuddyPress is a good bet. If you want forum software with a plugin architecture, bbPress is currently the only game in town.
In reply to: What's happening with bbPress?BuddyPress has great forum software built in… it uses bbPress.
In reply to: Plugins You Want !!!@chengdu living – Try this!
https://bbpress.org/plugins/topic/bbpress-polls/
I use it on a lot of my sites, and it’s excellent!
In reply to: Spambot managed to register passed Human Test pluginYou should be able to block the user without any plugins…
In reply to: Plugins You Want !!!hpguru – I’m guessing you’ve tried this already?

This is another option:
In reply to: Spambot managed to register passed Human Test pluginSpambots are constantly evolving. Do you have the latest version of Human Test plugin installed?
In reply to: Need poll for version 1.02 now!Ah ok… yah I’ve had a great experience with the plugin! It scales nicely well too…
In reply to: Need poll for version 1.02 now!OKTeaRoom – Ah I’m using bbPress Polls on a number of my installs, and it works great! What features are missing for you, just out of curiosity…
In reply to: Permission for userThere used to be a plugin that supported this:
https://bbpress.org/plugins/topic/forum-moderators/
But it was never updated from the version supporting bbPress 0.74…
In reply to: upgraded to new version; now can't log inAh sometimes Firefox corrupts my cookies, and then signins don’t work in that particular browser.
Try clearing your cookies?
In reply to: Non-Admins can't post on my forum…What do you mean by “WordPress discussion settings”… are you asking about a bbPress install or a WordPress one?
In reply to: Problem posting in Support ForumI’ve seen that “array voice” error before on these support forums a few times.
I think it’s probably an issue with bbPress 1+ – the errors only started showing up recently, and also Voices is a new feature (0.9 has it as a plugin, but 1.0 has it in the core).
I don’t see it in trac, so if you have a few examples of the error… it may be worth posting there!
In reply to: Keeping spam out of forumsI get a lot more than 3 good posts in my spam queues every day… but my forum does 3.5k-5k posts/day, so on a percentage basis I can’t complain. The real problem is when a long-time user gets stuck in spam – they get SO upset! That’s why I wrote some code to let them skip the spam software completely…
@onthebeach96 – Dunno much about phpbb… sorry I can’t be of more help! I used to really struggle with undeleted spam posts, before I installed this batch edit plugin which made life so much easier!
In reply to: Keeping spam out of forumsAkismet can be OK, but every few months it flips out and starts sticking a lot of ham into the spam queue.
After using it for 3 years, I’ve realized that it’s not reliable enough to depend on – especially since it even checks admin and moderator posts! This plugin helps on that front:
https://bbpress.org/plugins/topic/skip-akismet/
I have a separate plugin which stops sending posts to Akismet after they’ve been around for a certain amount of time and certain number of posts…
Between those plugins, that limits the amount of damage (e.g. false positives) that Akismet can do!
In reply to: Hey Guys, what's the deal with development? What bugs are you looking to have worked out? Maybe they can be addressed with existing plugins…
In reply to: Can you lock Sticky PostsThere are two types of stickies… you can “stick to front” or you can stick a post in its forum.
What do you mean Olaf?
