Try this plugin? It lets you select the password during the registration process:
In reply to: Whoa! (bbPress.org 2.0 is live)Woah, a lot to absorb!
When I click on the forums tab from this topic page btw, I get sent to this relative link I think:
In reply to: Disable "Favorites"?Favorites is baked into the bbPress core, so you can’t just turn off a plugin and deactivate it…
But you should be able to remove it just by removing the favorite links from the template! This is the key template file, I believe:

In reply to: Forum permissionI’m only aware of one conflict between Hidden Forums and 1.0 – I thought it was addressed with this fix?
https://bbpress.org/forums/topic/ugly-error-on-main-page
The code is definitely older, but when it comes to privacy-related code… tested and working code is worth its weight in gold!
In reply to: Forum permissionI have had a fantastic experience using “Hidden Forums”… I’ve used it on a number of installs over a long period of time, and have never had an issue.
Zaerl-visibility definitely sounds intriguing! I see you built on the Hidden Forums code for the plugin… would love to hear more about what drove your “old and broken” comment. Thanks!
In reply to: sticky postsStickies can either be stuck to the frontpage “(to front)” or stuck to a forum “stick topic”.
The number of items is global, I believe… but you can change that with this plugin!
In reply to: Forum permissionThis plugin should do the trick!
In reply to: Can We moderate Posts in BBpressDoes your client have funds to hire someone to upgrade the plugin?
That’s probably his or her best best… it probably wouldn’t be that expensive either.
I think that happens to me when I’m not signed into the plugins section.
I think the plugin tab runs on bbPress 0.8.x and the forum runs on 1.0.x, I believe… and the two forums haven’t been signin-integrated yet. So you have to sign in separately to the plugins tab…
Can you post a link to your registration page? I’ll try to repro the issue…
This plugin lets users set their own passwords during the registration process:
https://bbpress.org/plugins/topic/instant-password
That said, this system doesn’t verify email addresses… I suppose you could commission a separate plugin to do that, if you wanted? This plugin might be worth studying for clues on how to pull email confirmation off.

Good luck!
In reply to: Compatibility ….I use 0.9…
Are there specific features in 1.0 or 1.0 related plugins that you’d like? If not, you should stick to 0.9 for now…
Sure, I used both of them here:
You should be able to use Support Forum and Best Answer to mimic similar functionality!
In reply to: Slow loading discussion boardSix seconds on a dedicated server?! Something sounds wrong…
What are the new customized features you’re considering?
In reply to: bbPress as standalone project (as fork)Yury – I totally agree that we as a community need more control over things like docs, etc.! But I can’t see Matt giving FTP and database rights to us… maybe instead, we can download copies of the various releases and plugins and upload them to a backup server somewhere? And start some docs on another server, as you have.
Honestly – I would be shocked if Automattic shut down bbpress.org without warning. It would be a real black mark on Automattic’s reputation in the open source community, which is something Matt and his team are really proud of (and rightfully so). But if that’s something that a bunch of us are worried about, we can maybe create another thread to discuss how to prepare for that contingency.
Gautam – I’m not too worried about this next release, because Matt pretty clearly defined it before he disappeared:
https://bbpress.org/forums/topic/whats-happening-with-bbpress/page/5#post-64400
The next version though, we’ll definitely need to establish a clear direction – with or without Matt (but hopefully with him, or someone from Automattic!). But I’m not too worried about informing anyone… we’re posting on a public server, so it’s not like we’re hiding what we’re up to!
In reply to: bbPress as standalone project (as fork)“And main question: Who is admin of this site with full access if Matt left project?”
Is that the part you’re referring to? I guess I’m not understanding what contingency we’re preparing for. Matt has already de facto left the project, and Chris has been doing a wonderful job of making steady progress towards the next release.
Is the concern that if bbpress.org is suddenly shut down, we won’t have a backup of the data? Sorry – just trying to get my head around your concern!
In reply to: bbPress as standalone project (as fork)Why do we need to bother Matt again? We have everything we need to get the next version out the door… the cavalry isn’t coming to save us, but I think that’s ok.
Chris is doing a great job managing trac, and we’re making steady progress til the next version! Once that comes out, maybe we can pull up then?
In reply to: Spammer? Delete, Blocked, Or Inactivate Profile? You can use the Mass Delete Users plugin to delete spammers:
https://bbpress.org/plugins/topic/mass-delete-users/
This is similar, and lets you delete the spam messages themselves:
https://bbpress.org/plugins/topic/mass-edit/
Are the 100 people real users, or are they using a bot?
In reply to: bbPress as standalone project (as fork)If you’re serious about keeping bbPress as standalone software, you’re in luck: that’s exactly what bbPress is doing for the next version or two. No need to fork just yet: just get more involved with bbPress.
bbPress will probably start to begin the slow process of becoming a WordPress plugin later this year or maybe next year… at which point, you’ll be better acquainted with the software and in a better position to consider a fork!
In reply to: Delete Post by It’s OwnerThat “empty post via edit” issue is a tough one – because even if you prevented people from submitting empty posts through edits, they could still just submit some junk characters and overwrite their old post?
If it’s a growing problem for you, you could maybe cut down that “edit a post after submitting” time from one hour… to maybe just 10 or 15 minutes?
In reply to: Delete Post by It’s OwnerI believe that the code above should honor the “user can edit a post for this many minutes after submitting” setting? What’s it set to on your install (just as a way of checking if that might be an issue here!).
In reply to: Slow loading discussion boardHold on a sec, why do you need that many subforums?
Maybe there’s another way to handle this… I once hacked Support Forum to provide an extra set of categories. So the forums were the main categories, and Support Forum was my second set of categories (which I accessed using Views).
Then I created extra views which crossed the forums with the views. Quick example.
Here’s a forum:
http://classifieds.weddingbee.com/category/photography
Here’s a view for the second category, powered by Support Forum:
http://classifieds.weddingbee.com/view/free-offer
Here’s a cross between the two, of all the topics in that forum and also in that category:
http://classifieds.weddingbee.com/view/photography-free-offer
Could you do something similar, to reduce the number of forums you need to use at once?
In reply to: Thesis integration?@PubDirLtd – I don’t have the links handy, but you may want to read up on some of the earlier discussions around the future of bbPress… it’s moving in the direction you mentioned.
In reply to: Templates for 1.x ???Version 1.1 alpha? I’m not familiar with that version… is there a later version than the ones here?
