I finally gave up and spent the ungodly amount of hours repairing and bringing the phpbb board back to life and went with that. This was a nice hope for a good change though as WordPress is so much easier to work with stability wise.

Woot. This worked for me, however it didn’t properly import the forums/topics. They would list the count but would display as no topics under each. I then used this to get the users over and then paused it, switched over to the normal importer from RC6 for the rest, but it still listed them all as Anonymous (although brought in all of the forums, subforums and topics).

Before and after, the RC6 importer gets stuck at step 8 with a looping “Converting anonymous topic authors (500 through 500 of 500)” every 2 seconds for what seems to be indefinitely. Forums are such a pain in the arse. 🙂

However, using that the users imported fine, but the forums/topics didn’t. It would list the forums. However when you click on one it will lead to a page that lists the number of content but then show none of it as if there wasn’t any subforums or topics.

So then I used the script I just mentioned but stopped it after the user import. Then I switched back to the original importer which dragged everything else back in (but had to uncheck the stop on errors option).

However, all of the topics loaded as anonymous regardless and it is stuck on step 8, saying Converting anonymous topic authors (500 through 500 of 500), over and over and over and over…every two seconds. This last part also happened when I originally tried the normal importer in the RC 6 release.

At this point, I am just confused and wish the phpbb forums wouldn’t be all mucked up (server 500 error, not db related). *shrug*

I too must say thanks! Albeit a bit of time has gone by since the last post, but this is the one I fell on and this is the one that worked for me 😀

I also think the many attempts to import, find an error, add the column, import, find an error, add the column…..etc, led to bbpress having a meltdown somewhere possibly as in WordPress, when you click on the forums link in the menu or the “All Forums” sub menu item, it leads to a ERROR 502 – BAD GATEWAY.

I tried re-installing the plugin but the forums listing menu item is shot. I even upgraded to the current release candidate.

On a positive note, the current release candidate seems to be importing data….working on importing up to convert 50k+ topics right now. Even though the forum listing in admin screen is screwed, this is at least a good test to see what happens on the import I guess…
