Now that the official announcement is up there has been a significant amount of traffic here, so now might be a good time to address a few common questions.
Can I integrate users/login with WordPress?
I see no reason why bbPress and WordPress can’t use identical user table structures, which would make integrating between the two relatively easy. Out of the box they’ll still use different cookie names, just because things could be messy otherwise, but changing that as well wouldn’t be too hard for people implementing unified systems.
Will this be better than phpBB and PunBB?
It’s not going to be better or worse, just different. Right now it is at alpha so it has significantly less mature setup/administration tools.
How will it stay small?
bbPress uses the same plugin system as WordPress, so my goal is to keep the core as small and fast as humanly possible and let everything else happen in plugins.

Is it ready for me to use?
If you have to ask, probably not yet. You should only download bbPress at this point if you’re interested in contributing to the project. Making the installation and setup more user-friendly is one of the first priorities though.

I guess I could stop working on my WordPress Forum Theme?
We’re currently working on a project for a disability charity in the UK where one part of the project is implementing a forum that is accessible to W3C AAA standards (to the extent that this is ever going to be possible given that forum members can easily post inaccessible messages).
Up to now we have been considering phpbb or vbulletin as viable contenders. Is it sensible for us to add bbpress into the list of contenders at this stage? The commitment to standards compliance is what attracts me.
How can we contribute to bbpress

if i want to show bbpress with new features that you guys haven’t added would you permit it or what? 😮
It would really be cool and I think you should include the option that bbpress uses the same user accounts as wordpress. Many people already have lots of users on their blogs and they wouldnt want them to signup again.
Yay!!!!!! Wow! I can’t wait til bbPress gets a few more kinks worked out, like, installation, and then I’ll be using it on my website along with WP! I love WP, it’s so easy to use and easy to modify the design etc.
Can’t wait to use bbPress. I’ve looked at it some and I’m so pleased to see it’s built so similarly to WP, means I’ll be able to use it! I hate phpBB and some of the others I’ve looked at, they’re not easy to use or set up or modify the design.

Hi, Love WP! Running 1.5.1.3 now, with about 5 blogs on 1 db. Have immediate plans to install 4 more Wp installs on same db for family and friends. Finally got around to installing bbpress this weekend, and it’s working, but I can find NOTHING on how to simply bring it into a WP page, to integrate it, to have the style sheet from the blog display the bbpress page as I’d LIKE to see it. Can anyone give me a hint about a simple one/two/three process to bring bbpress into a Wp page, and get the css to style the bbpress data? Any assistance greatly appreciated. Still learning to hack php/mysql, but I can jump deep into the code once I have an idea where I’m going. Thanks!
