I’m still trying to confirm that the last two plugins I mentioned only have paid solutions to the problem that I have. Don’t trust my search skills more than I do!
Moreover, I wouldn’t be offended if you pointed out that I wrote something silly (like what I implied about ProfileGrid and UsersWP) especially if it gives me more information, helps me solve my problem, gives me a chance to apologize for being (unnecessarily) offensive, and results in more conversation. For example, I would have appreciated it if someone told me earlier that I should have considered ProfileGrid (as a free solution) more. I’m still looking for more free solutions.
Still, I hope my replies have been useful, or at least harmless.
In reply to: Links to what was started/created by logged in usersI added the tags that I mentioned above.
I went from worrying that I wouldn’t be able to find out which ones (I have to choose from) are reliable and safe to finding only two that I would go with (if they were for free). They are
Ultimate Member – User Profile, User Registration, Login & Membership Plugin
and
UsersWP – User Profile & Registration.
But, they are not for free.
If you know, you might save me a lot of time by telling me if I can find one that will do it for free, because I haven’t stopped searching for one that is for free, and I’m not very knowledgeable about this. If they aren’t, why aren’t they for free, when so many things are?
Thank you.
In reply to: Member Activity ShortcodesPinkishHue’s post at https://bbpress.org/forums/topic/how-to-get-a-feed-of-all-activity/ might be useful. It has links to shortcode like [display-posts author=”bill”].
In reply to: Member Activity ShortcodesI’m also interested in that type of shortcodes (and whether they exist), and if there are other ways to do it besides with shortcodes.
If the shortcodes for it don’t exist, I’m a little curious about why they don’t exist, though why they don’t exist isn’t a burning question, to me. I couldn’t find anything like it at https://codex.bbpress.org/features/shortcodes/.
Though, I already asked how to do it, not necessarily with shortcodes, at https://bbpress.org/forums/topic/links-to-what-was-started-created-by-logged-in-users/. I added the tag “alternatives” to let people know that there might be other ways to do it.
Thanks for your work.
In reply to: Links to what was started/created by logged in usersDo the topics at
https://bbpress.org/forums/topic/user-activity-topics-started-or-replied-to/
and
https://bbpress.org/forums/topic/user-activity-topics-started/
mean that it can only be done with (what is to me) a lot of code? I’ll learn the code if I have to, but right now I’m looking for something easier, even if it doesn’t give me a lot of control. I know I said I found plugins, but I’d trust what I found so much more if they were discussed in places like wpbeginner and this bbPress support forum. How can I tell if I should go with a plugin?
Adding tags like “user activity”, “activity widget”, and “activity menu” might make this topic helpful for others, unless what I’m looking for is called something else that I don’t know the name of.
Was it wrong to create this reply, if it is bumping?
Thank you.
In reply to: Links to what was started/created by logged in usersI would also like the options of “Topics Replied To” and “Subscriptions”. I would like for it to look something like
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1tDn-54qvuhLe0_yqoUtA4S_zuYE7XqIO/view?usp=sharing
which is part of a screen that looks like
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1460rnXZZ43auHj0jE9YByxf3-hcg72x7/view?usp=sharing
I’ve found plugins that I think I can do this with, but I don’t know how reliable and dangerous those plugins are to use. If possible, I’d like to compare a widget (that can do what I described above) with a page (from a menu) that can also do it. The above two links went to two pictures. Also, please tell me what specific plugin, pages, or etc. was/were used to create the parts of those two pictures (that are specifically of a bbPress page) that I have been describing.
Thank you.
In reply to: Not able to registerHi nur5393,
Did you say that your problem was solved?
In reply to: Automatically subscribe to topicIt can be done by using number 6 under the “Topic/Reply Form” tab, using the style pack plugin.
Also, I hate having to get new plugins because I can’t figure out how to use the plugins that I already have, because that seems inefficient.
My site is at http://dancing4locations.org.
The reason I asked Robin W. that question is because if the bbPress Login Widget has more than the following three options
- Title: Here you can set the title of the widget as it will be displayed in the sidebar.
- Register URI: Link to your custom signup page eg. A WordPress page using the [bbp-register] shortcode.
- Lost Password URI: Link to your lost-password page eg. A WordPress page using the [bbp-lost-pass] shortcode.
then I might be missing out on too much to use a different Login Widget instead, and therefore I should try harder to figure out how to use the bbPress Login Widget, even though I’ve been struggling to figure out how to use it for a very long time.
Thanks again, Robin W.
What do they find it useful for?
Thank you, Robin W.
I’m curious why (if anything that works for WordPress registration will work for bbPress forum registration) the bbPress Login Widget was made.
In reply to: Not able to registerThe topic at https://bbpress.org/forums/topic/installing-bbpress-and-creating-registering-new-users-for-your-forum/ is relevant.
Do we have to select the bbPress template page for User Register? A page said that this can be done by clicking on the drop-down Template menu on the right hand section of the screen and selecting bbPress – User Register. But, I couldn’t find that either.
Do we need to select the checkbox “Disable ajax page loading”? I couldn’t find it.
To follow purplep’s instructions, would you please help me find Layout using Appearance > Customize > Layout?
JV44HeinzBar said that the page that opens up when clicking “register” is the login page, and I’m having the same problem.
Also, while I know alaskatoargentina’s post is old, and while I’m not an expert, about what alaskatoargentina asked, it might be possible to get a sidebar by using a different theme.
In reply to: Not able to registerMaybe I should have also mentioned that, when I use the bbPress register form, no new users are created.
In reply to: Not able to registerMaybe I should have mentioned that the register form is from a bbPress widget.
In reply to: Too many search formsThank you, Robin W. I found a solution at https://wordpress.org/support/topic/removing-the-search-form/.
In reply to: Remove Category Hyperlink?Sorry, even though I navigated around a lot, I didn’t realize how the hyperlinks worked, and now I think it is better with them.
In reply to: Remove Category Hyperlink?I got back into my site using my host’s control panel, but I’m still trying to make the hyperlinks go away.
Thank you, Anterus, that is a good way to ask the question.
In reply to: Remove Category Hyperlink?Should I give updates here about how debugging is going, or does the error have nothing to do with bbPress?
In reply to: Remove Category Hyperlink?I don’t know if it is bad to ask this question in two places, but if I can turn on error reporting using a plugin, would you please recommend a plugin?
In reply to: Remove Category Hyperlink?I got back in, but then I got messages that said “There has been a critical error on your website. Please check your site admin email inbox for instructions” whenever I clicked on Dashboard and a lot of the other things, even while using ?snippets-safe-mode=true (which I can tell you about if you’re interested). So, maybe I’m not in. I don’t know if the problem was only because of how I used the Code Snippets plugin, or if it was because of how I used it with bbPress.
