Do you have the user role editor installed? I get that issue from time to time (forum/topics/replies tabs disappearing from my admin dashboard) and all it takes is a quick reset of the permissions using that plugin to bring them back!

It’s possible, and you probably could’ve found it with some searching, like I did: https://bbpress.org/forums/topic/bbpress-2-plugin-forum-order-doesnt-work-not-appearing-in-correct-order/#post-112828

The file that’s referenced isn’t in the same place anymore–I believe it’s in plugins/bbpress/includes/forums/template-tags.php these days.

Keep in mind it’ll get written over with the original code with each update, though.

I tried this fix and it resolved everything (and a good thing too, as I found out my forums had been set upon by spammers in my absence). Thanks!

@julien1975 I’m having the exact same issues… No forums available for access from the admin panel, no “Forums” under tools or settings, absolutely no way to administrate the forums except from the front-end. I can’t deal with replies or topics on a bulk scale either now. REALLY hope this gets resolved soon.

It feels like every time I get bbpress situated, something else breaks…

Having the same problem, and it just happened in the past few days. I haven’t added any new plugins or anything–nor have I touched bbpress, so what gives?

All of the Forums options are gone from the sidebar in the admin dash, there’s nothing under tools or settings, absolutely no indication that forums even EXIST–except on the frontend, which works fine.

My username as an admin is also still listed as Keymaster in the Users table, but I receive the “you don’t have sufficient permissions to access this page” when I try to access wp-admin/options-general.php?page=bbpress

Obviously can’t remap anything, and I tried upgrading to 2.3.1, but nothing changed.

That plugin was JUST what I needed–and it worked great for me in changing authors of both topics and replies. However, I had to change everything individually (the bulk change author did not work)–so maybe that is what’s causing you problems?

Well, it doesn’t work. That’s the entire issue. The title of the page still displays as ‘Archive | ##:##’ where ##:## is the time of access, instead of just ‘Forums’ or similar. You also said that sidebar couldn’t be change, which patently wasn’t true 😛

Hmm, I was finally able to successfully change the sidebar when I realized that the top-page forum is being treated as an archive page–and not a forum page (even though there is a “Forum” entry in my admin sidebar panel, along with Topic and Reply entries so that I can customize the sidebars for those pages as well). I suppose this is the best stopgap measure I can muster for now.

Ah wait — nope, just a trick of the eye.

It seems changing the permalink structure gave me two similar looking addresses:

website.com/forum (a page I made using the shortcode into the top page of the forums)
website.com/forums (the default top page, linked in the breadcrumbs and unable to be altered)

So the problem persists, just with a different name :/

    Huh.

It seems I solved the problem without meaning to.

I changed my permalink structure from the default (to one which uses the page title), and the problem solved itself! The breadcrumbs now link to the proper title page, yay!

What I mean to say is I can access my forum via two routes: website.com/forum (a page I made the forum top using the shortcode) and website.com/?post_type=forum

website.com/forum has a sidebar I set with the recent topics and comments widget–I can manipulate this just fine and am glad to have it as the forum top.

website.com/?post_type=forum has a sidebar I CANNOT manipulate for some reason (even though I can alter it in the admin settings–it never takes) and displays a strange “Archive | time” title in the title bar.

The only way you can get to website.com/?post_type=forum is via the breadcrumbs–but I don’t want people accessing it via the breadcrumbs or at ALL. I need to either be able to remove it altogether or fix it to allow the sidebar to be manipulated and the title to display properly.

Why does it come up as an option to give a sidebar in the widget area of the admin panel, then?

The /forum sidebar changes just fine — it’s the /?post_type=forum one that won’t. And if it won’t change, that’s fine. I just want the breadcrumb to lead back to /forum and not /?post_type=forum — no one needs to see that page even.

The forum is located here. If you go into any of the subforums and try to navigate back to the top forum, you’ll be taken to “/?post_type=forum”, which simply isn’t cooperating when I try to give it a proper sidebar via the widget menu in the admin panel (no matter what I apply to ‘Forum’, nothing takes), and I have no clue why the title for it is displaying “Archive | ##:## [time]”.

I’m trying to do the exact same thing. Space is at a premium on my site, and too much is wasted with the freshness wording, but I still want the data there…

Is there any way the OP could explain how they set up this bandaid solution? I’m having the same issue and some users are expressing extreme frustration, as they believe their long replies are lost to the ether.

I’m having the same problem — brand new bbpress installation, no Akismet, no other bbpress-related plugins whatsoever, and topics/replies from (so far) two users have to be manually approved every time. It’s frustrating for them not to be able to engage in conversation and annoying for me to have to remember to check my dashboard every hour or so–and there’s no reason for it to be limited to just these two users that I can see.

Other users are marked ‘pending’ for their first post (and even then, only occasionally–I’d like to turn that off as well, but it’s equally impossible) and flow through fine thereafter, but this is really frustrating. Any support? Several people have reported this issue in the past year or so, as I’ve seen from going back through the archives, and yet no one’s been aided in solving the issue.
