As of yesterday, I was using the following plugins:

    Allow Images 0.7.1

    BBCode Buttons Toolbar 0.0.9

    BBcode Lite 1.0.3

    bbPress Smilies 0.0.8

    Human Test for bbPress 0.9.2

    Members Online 0.0.1

    Topics Per Page 0.0.5

    Unread Posts 0.9.3

I didn’t have a problem for days. This morning, I uploaded and activated the following:

    bbPress Signatures 0.20

    New User Notification Email 0.0.2

    Hidden Forums Tag Filter 0.0.6

Just a few minutes ago, I tried to post to the forum, but I was logged off after hitting “Send Post” and my post didn’t make it. I then went to the admin panel and had the dreaded “Database Upgrade” message again. After upgrading, I checked my plugins. They were all fine, except Members Online,

Topics Per Page and Unread Posts were deactivated.

My guess is that there’s a problem with New User Notification Email.

    Thoughts?

I have switched off all plugins except the following:

    Allow Images 0.7.1

    BBCode Buttons Toolbar 0.0.9

    BBCode Lite 1.0.3

    bbPress Smilies 0.0.8

    Human Test 0.9.2

I haven’t had a problem for 24 hours. Will slowly switch on plugins until I do.

    And once again… database upgrade.

I am going to go with essential plugins only and see if there’s any difference with database upgrades.

Update: I disabled bbPress Attachments and all the other plugins were able to be activated.

I’m assuming the bbPress Attachments was being “bad”. Anything else I can test to confirm that?

I didn’t have these problems when I was running .9, but when I moved to Media Temple from Dreamhost I upgraded to 1.0 RC1. I probably shouldn’t have done the upgrade at the same time.

And just as I was typing this, I got the database upgrade message again when visiting the admin panel. The upgrade message:

    Beginning upgradeā€¦
Tags copied to taxonomy tables: bb_upgrade_1080
    Display names populated: bb_upgrade_1090
    Index forum_stickies dropped: bb_upgrade_1100
    >>> Done

    Fourth time since last night.

    bb_meta shows 91,014 records.

I don’t know if that is high or not. There seem to be a lot of bb attachment keys from ck’s attachments plugin.

    Forum specs:

    Totals

    8 forums

    251 topics

125895 posts (150 posts per day)

    2577 tags

    27 users

This forum is private and just for a handful of friends to hang out and chat. We basically run a thread until we have 1000 posts then start a new one.

Interesting… a few weeks ago my bb_meta table was “in use” and I had to go from a backup. Perhaps I’ll give that a shot again…

I will look into this and report back later, but…

    As reported in this thread:

    https://bbpress.org/forums/topic/recount-errors

I was using BOTH Simple Onelinelist and ck’s Members Online. Why, you ask? Well, because I was too lazy to edit one of the templates we use (Theme Switcher is installed). Not only is S.O. out of date, but I’m sure there was a conflict.

Once I deleted S.O., all my problems went away. Recount errors, database upgrade messages and corrupted tables. Some plugins that didn’t work properly in 1.0 (Admin Add User & Approve User Registration, specifically) started working. Perhaps this was the problem all along?

When I have a chance this weekend, I will investigate error logs and whatnot. For now, none of my previous problems can be reproduced.

Scratch that… it was Simple Onlinelist.

I switched to ck’s Members Online.

Nice call, buddha. I turned off all my plugins, and I was able to run the recount. I then turned them all back on, one by one, recounting between activations. I wanted to find the culprit. But now they are all on and I’m able to run Recounts with no problems. Weird.

I would still like to check the MySQL logs, but I haven’t looked to see if I have access to them yet.

It would seem odd that they are restoring backups, because all my posts and threads are current. Why would it just roll back themes and plugins? Are those all stored in the same table… maybe bb_meta?

Just woke up to find my database screwed up again.

The “upgrade the database” message came right up in the admin panel again. The template that I was using was switched to the default. Some plugins were deactivated while others that I had switched off were activated. Incidentally, every time this happens, the exact same plugins are activated/deactivated.

    What would cause that??

    They are running 4.1.11.

In addition to the problems reported in my initial post, I have had to “upgrade the database” when logging into the admin panel TWICE today.

Upgrade message (same every time… this has been happening a lot these last few weeks):

    Beginning upgradeā€¦

Tags copied to taxonomy tables: bb_upgrade_1080

    Display names populated: bb_upgrade_1090

    Index forum_stickies dropped: bb_upgrade_1100

Other than make another backup right now?

    Already done. :)

I’m really concerned with all these MySQL errors I’m getting with MediaTemple. I’d love to find a solid, reliable host in the same price range, but I suppose you get what you pay for.

I went ahead and dropped bb_meta, then imported a 6/21 backup. Everything seems to be working fine. Should I do anything else before I proceed?

    @citizenkeith

Thanks John, I’ll check it out.

MT reported back saying they could not recreate the problem. They ran some tests but came up empty.

    @citizenkeith

    I’m using the grid.

I opened a ticket with MT, so I’ll report back with their response.

And now I posted and got this message:

@Ipstenu Yup, it was just my browser cache. Doh!

Just upgraded from RC1. The admin panel is totally screwed up, like it’s not getting the full CSS file or something. The sidebar appears first, then the dashboard below it.

Otherwise, everything else is working fine.

It seems to be just the one member, who has a 3-letter handle.

I’m having a CSS problem with this theme.

One member’s posts are always running on top of the post below his.

Thanks… the new plug-in did the trick. Still don’t understand what happened, but at least the front page isn’t as cluttered. :)
