In reply to: Filename cannot be empty
You don’t need to reinstall and create a new database. You should try to figure out what is wrong.
In reply to: Cannot see custom themes ?What is this “custom folder” you’re talking about? Is it a folder inside my-templates? Both folders will need to be 755 permissions, and the theme will need to be valid (with a proper header in style.css).
Take a screenshot if you can of the folder structure with permissions.
In reply to: When bbpress 1.0.3?I don’t see how any GPL software can actually die. The source is out there, all of it, every version. Everyone is free to modify it and distribute it as they wish under the GPL. We all have our own copies. The community will die if we let it. But the software will live on.
You can check the progress of recent work for the 1.0.3 release, which will be mainly a bug fix release, here:
https://trac.bbpress.org/milestone/1.0.3
There’s no date set, but you can see the number of remaining tickets.
In reply to: Filename cannot be emptyIn reply to: Filename cannot be emptyAre you using any plugins? Are your plugins in my-plugins? Templates in my-templates? Are the permissions on my-plugins and my-templates 755 for both?
In reply to: Plugins You Want !!!I’d say more than weeks, less than years. I have no official word, but we have been fixing bugs and can probably release 1.1 with anonymous posting and subscribe to topic somewhere in 2010.
In reply to: Topic tagsAwesome, that’s good to know. I was trying to explain the other day why to include wp-load.php vs. wp-blog-header.php and didn’t have a good reason.
In reply to: Topic tagsOne thing, not sure if it matters. The forum pages all return a 404 code, even though the page is displayed. This was an old problem with WordPress integration.
Here is something:
http://www.adrogen.com/blog/wordpress-wp-blog-headerphp-causes-404-in-ie/
Also, are you including
wp-load.php
orwp-blog-header.php
? Should bewp-load.php
.There is another post on these forums on how to fix it but I cannot find it right now.
In reply to: Topic tagsI wasn’t able to add a tag either
In reply to: All forums RSS feed?So instead of the last 35 posts in all forums, you want a certain number of recent posts from each forum? So, 20 forums and the last 5 posts in each would give you 100 recent posts in all forums, rather than the 35 that could be from any forum?
In reply to: Cannot see custom themes ?644 is good for php files. 755 is needed for folders. You need to change all the folders to 755 permissions, not 644.
In reply to: need help with database username an passwordYou need to get your database connection details from your host (hostgator.) You normally need:
Database name
Database user name
Database user password
Database host
bbPress defaults to localhost for “Database host” but that’s not always true (database is not always on the same machine as the website, which means localhost here is inaccurate.)
Find those in your hosting control panel, and we can go from there.
In reply to: need help with database username an passwordChances are you need to set the database host in the “advanced” settings. On the same screen as the database username, password and database name, there is a checkbox (IIRC) that says something like “advanced database settings” and checking that reveals the place where you enter the database host name.
I don’t agree that it’s an advanced setting, but if you have a database host name to use, that is where you enter it.
In reply to: Install problemNot sure yet why it happens, but this seemed to be a workable solution.
In reply to: bbPress for Home and School / Parent CommunicationI guess no one uses it like that.
So what sort of features would you need for parent communication? Who would they be communicating with?
Hmm, can’t seem to find it anywhere:
https://bbpress.org/forums/topic/new-bbpress-theme-black-letterhead
All the themes from that site, not listed in the directory listing:
http://www.bbpressthemes.net/download/
I wonder if anyone using it will share the download?

In reply to: Plugins You Want !!!I am not sure when the next release will be, and I’m not certain how difficult how hard it would be to get ‘subscribe to topic’ working. You could upgrade to the trunk release to get the functionality, but I don’t think I would recommend that in a production setting. Maybe you can install a test setup and see if everything you need works (especially plugins.)
In reply to: Filename cannot be emptyDid you change anything recently? How long was it fine, and when did it break? Was it ever OK?
It looks like bbPress is trying to include some template file and failing to do that? Did you change themes recently?
In reply to: how to increase topic length bbpressThat screenshot shows that you already modified the database table?
In reply to: IRC ChatsThere have not been any that I know of. If there’s interest, we can meet there ourselves. Email me at chrishajer [at] gmail [dot] com and we’ll get something going.
In reply to: Linking back to main website. That page is requiring a login, so I cannot see it.
You can edit the file locally in Notepad, but after editing, you need to save the file then upload the edited file with an FTP program probably. What did you use to upload bbPress in the first place?
In reply to: Limit posting to certian forumsThis plugin used to work just like that for 0.9 I believe:
In reply to: Installation on Linux server not coming up.Can you post a link to the forum, or send it to me in email chrishajer [at] gmail [dot] com (if you don’t want to post the link.)
In reply to: Linking back to main website.1. Wordpad is bad for editing plain text files. It sometimes adds extra characters. Notepad is better, and even better and still free is Notepad++ http://notepad-plus.sourceforge.net/uk/site.htm (all if you’re on Windows)
2. Post a link to your forum please.
