bbPress is capable of using translations. I would suggest creating a trac ticket with your custom translation so that JJ can include it in future releases.

If you are using WordPress 3.3 and the latest bbPress (I use the nightly download), then you can turn on the tinymce editor instead of the standard textfield input for creating topics and replies.

You would then need to grant permission to the different roles that you want to allow to insert images, either via links or the upload system.

There are user role plugins that can help with this which are actually built for WordPress, but work for bbPress just fine.

Keep in mind that it’s not usually good practice to allow regular users to upload whatever they want into your media system.

The themes used on these sites are not available. However there are literally hundreds of themes available that simply use a top logo area with the tabbed menu’s. Dig around a bit and I’m sure you will find one.

Keep in mind, bbPress is at its core simply a WordPress plugin. bbPress does not take away from anything WordPress is capable of doing.

To try and answer your questions.

    1. Yes. You pretty much have full control over the registration system just like you do with a standard WordPress install.

Want it open to everyone with no info collected? Sure it can be done.

Want it open but require some info collected? Sure it can be done.

want it open but require double opt in? That’s pretty much standard behavior.

    2. If using a subfolder install of multisite then this is pretty much standard behavior. If using subdomain install, then yes there are workarounds. If using subdomain install with domain mapping… well that is a can of worms but possible.

    3. Yes but requires some custom code. Not to difficult.

    4. Nope, but keep in mind that topics and replies are simply custom post-types. Hence you can add in custom metadata or custom fields to each topic. Then add in the front end metabox inputs and your 90% there.

    5. I personally have a bbPress forum with 300k posts, 45k members on dedicated server and have no issues. This would NOT work on a shared server. bbPress is a ‘heavy’ plugin using a lot of resources, but compared to just about any other forum system, including commercial products, it holds its own.

    6. plugin territory – I believe Paul Gibbs has a rewards system for buddypress which could probably be reused for bbPress, though I have not tried it.

Remember that bbPress is just a plugin which follows all the WordPress coding standards. It is simple code to understand, clearly labeled and well thought out. Not to mention JJ is a coding ninja.

Nope, bbPress 2x doesn’t have that but you can add it to your own theme if you choose.

I would start by deactivating all other plugins and also activate the default twentyeleven theme, then choosing one of the default url settings, click save. Then go to settings -> forums, and click save.

It sounds like maybe another plugin or a theme setting is interfering.

If it fixes the problem, then activate one plugin at a time to find the problem one..

    My best guess…

To do that you would need to install WordPress in network subdomain multisite setup. Then you would create a new site ‘forum’ and put bbPress onto that site.

There may be other ways, but that is the only way I know how to do it.

With your level of expertise that you are describing, definitely use the front-end to import the users. It’s slow, but of course it will work.

Passwords are a combination md5 + salt, and are rather complicated to automate. Once again, bbconverter does this rather elegantly.

Pretty much the fastest way possible really is to write a custom script, and if it were me, I’d base it off of bbconverter. If that is beyond your scope, then I wouldn’t bother as by the time you get it figured out, you would probably be done anyhow :)

If you are talking a huge amt of users, then consider contacting AWJunkies over at bbconverter for a custom quote for the job. He’s a top notch pro at this stuff. He’s not cheap, but then again he’s about as great a coder as you could ever hope to find.

try going to settings -> forums and click save, then go to settings -> permalinks and click save

It could just be a matter of resetting all the permalinks to get it working.

good point, how do other plugins do this?

have you tried a standard permalink option just to see if it would work? /%postname%/ for example?

I’m not really sure what those errors mean, but that is my best guess, that somehow it doesn’t like the .html?

Buddypress + bbPress integration will only get better. JJ is working on the next vs. which will include tighter integration between them. Eventually it will be completely transparent.

This will turn off the admin section to all users except super-admins

    https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/bbpress-no-admin/

As to the login widget, there are a number of plugins with custom WordPress login wigets, some of which include redirects. Search the WordPress repository for one that fits your needs.

Are you on a shared host?

If so, you could simply be running out of memory. Try upping your ram applied to the website and that should solve the problems you are having.

    Sorry you feel that way.

I spend at least an hour a day answering every question in the forum that I am able to. There are other people that do their best to help out as well.

Bottom line is we simply need more people who have the time to spend a few minutes a day in here to help out other users. This forum is run exclusively by volunteers only, so we all do what we can.

This plugin is NOT built for bbpress but could easily be adapted and used with bbPress

As you seem pretty savvy with mysql, I would suggest looking at the code from bbconverter (bbconverter.com) in order to see how AWJunkies is importing the users. It is pretty straightforward code and easy to follow. It should give you exactly what you are after.

Make sure that you have gone into settings -> forums and clicked save. I would also suggest going into settings -> permalinks, choose a nice url structure from the list and also click save.

This ‘should’ set the permalinks for everything so that your topics will show up. Hopefully solving the problem.

if you look at twwinn’ site you will see 2 forums

    http://www.gogo-gringo.com/forums = new bbPress 2x

    http://www.gogo-gringo.com/forum = old bbPress standalone 1x vs.

It’s the 2x that he is trying to fix. There is no link on his site to get to the new forums, the button you are clicking on ‘forum’ is his old forum which he is trying to fix.

I would suggest creating a demo account and posting the login info here if you want people to check it out. You can always delete the demo account when the problem is resolved.

when you add a forum, type in whatever you want to be the description in the content area (where you normally type your post content).

If you want it bold, then simply add some custom css to your theme to make it bold.
