Just delete lines 168 - 172 in bb-settings.php to get around this for now.

If you are upgrading the file will be replaced and fixed anyway.

Hi Chris,

First, thank you very much for your attention. :)

So, yes I've tried editing the bb-settings.php and bb-admin/plugins.php as recomended, but it didn't work. I got the following messages:

Warning: Invalid argument supplied for foreach() in /home/wordpres/public_html/forum/bb-settings.php on line 169

And, yes, I made a database backup. I didn't do anything yet.

Thanks,

> Any other suggestions? Should I try this sollution?

Yes. The same problem is happening in another file. Your host has disabled or does not allow the
glob
function. So, you have the 2nd error. Same type of error, just in a different file now. You should change line 7 in
bb-admin/plugins.php
to this:

if ( function_exists( 'glob' ) && is_callable( 'glob' ) ) {

That will take care of the 2nd error. Then, post your results.

UPDATE: are you saying making this edit did not work? What was your result? Another error? Post the results please.

I am not certain about exporting and importing the database, so I would hold off on this. Please make a database backup now, before upgrading, if you haven't already done so.

laran: that is the proper behaviour for published and unpublished draft or future posts in WordPress. When you are logged in, you can view them. When you are not logged in, you will get a 404 if you try to view one of those pages you could previously view.

If it possible you gave yourself more power when resetting the permissions? If you had author or contributor status in WordPress before, and now you have editor or administrator, it's possible you are seeing things now that you could not see before.

But, in my experience, that's the way WordPress works. If you are logged in and have permission, and the URL, you can view unpublished posts. When you are not logged in, you can't, by design.

Good luck.

I installed bbpress. I (tried to) followed the instructions for integrating with wordpress. When I was done with the installation the forum worked fine but I couldn't log into wordpress. I resolved that issue by changing:

a:1:{s:9:"keymaster";b:1;}
to
a:1:{s:13:"administrator";b:1;}

in wp_usermeta for my user.

This allowed me to log into wordpress. Not sure what it did to bbpress because I figured I'd just re-install.

I dropped the non-shared bbpress tables in the database (forums, topics, topicsmeta i think, tagged, tags).

Now, when I'm logged into wordpress my blog shows up a little wierd. The blog index page (index.php) shows published and unpublished posts. It didn't do this before and I don't want it to do it now. Also, none of the pages show up. They all give me a 404.

If I'm logged in I'm allowed to view the pages. But if I'm not logged in the pages show up as 404s.

If anyone has any suggestions on how to clean up this mess I'd love to hear them. Thanks.

I tryied that solution too and it didn't work either. :(
By the way, the php version in my server is 5.2.6.

Anyway, the thing is I want to upgrade my bbPress, but the instructions say I must deactivate all plugins first. I can't deactivate them without the errors. Is there any other way I could upgrade my bbPress? Could I backup my bbPress tables, delete bbPress files and simply install the newest version (0.9.0.2) from zero and after that, import my tables?

I just can't believe I'm having such a hard time just to do something that should be easy. :(

The getmypid function being disabled has been discussed before. Since it's used to generate a random state, you can safely remove (I think) that function call and still be able to continue. You just lose the pid being concatenated with the other number when generating the random state.

Did my attempt to integrate WP and bbP change my WP-tables in the database?

I tried unsuccessfully to install bbPress again but got the same warning. Now I deleted all tables from my database, both WP and bbP and deleted all program files also. I will make a new try tomorrow but without any attempt to integration. I will install WP and import posts from the exportfile I made before deleting the database.

Any other suggestions?

Hey everyone, I'm new here. I've found out about this awesome forum a while back but didn't have the time to make a forum for my site. Anyhoo, I was wondering if bbPress could be integrated with Social Engine. I know integration with vBulletin and phpBB is possible but bbPress seems much more superior. ;)

This is getting to complicated for me. I have given up trying to integrate WP and bbPress. But I still want to try get them look similar. So I deleted my bbPress-tables from the database and deleted all the bbPress-files and started new.

But got new problems, when the installation was made I got a warning:
Warning: getmypid() has been disabled for security reasons in /data/members/paid/e/n/enkelwebbplats.se/htdocs/www/forum/bb-includes/class-phpass.php on line 43

I only understand that this relates to passwords and when I tried to log I could not and got a not exact but similar warning and could not log in. I tried to register but the password I was given did not work.

I am getting frustrated. Now I cannot create a non-integrated forum. Please, please help!!!

I just realised that you may not have a language file for bbPress installed at all. bbPress does not come with any language files by default. You need to download them separately and follow the instructions in the bb-config.php file about where to put them.

The language file you are after should be here...

Thank you for answering! I am afraid I do not understand what you are writing. I do not think I am loading (I am not quite sure what that means) WP into bbP, I just want to integrate in such a way that a reader do not have to login twice to comment on the we site and also in the forum. So my plan is to change the look (skin) of bbPress to be like my WP. I understand this is better from a performance view.

I do not understand what merging of the language files means and how to do it. Please elaborate!

My aim is to make my forum look like my web site. I succeded to a small degree by creating a header that is the same as for my web site. Unfortunately it meant that the layout of the forum changed in a way I do not know how to fix. At http://www.goranlindgren.se/forum/ you can see how far I came. The header is ok but the rest of the page got changed in unexpected ways. My plan was to use the header but have the forum look more like another forum I have at http://www.32astolf.se/forum/

Advice on how to proceed is most welcome!

There are a few other bbPress installtions in Swedish but they also cannot handle Swedish names. There must be many other languages with non-English characters. How do they handle it?

Are you loading WordPress inside bbPress? If so the textdomain does not get loaded due to the fact that it is called "default" like the WordPress one.

If you merge the language files of WordPress and bbPress and load it in WordPress it should work.

I wouldn't recommend doing that, so I won't add it to the documentation. WP tends to stomp on stuff that bbPress needs. I've had a project on the back-burner for a while now that will eventually allow what you are after. But it's not ready yet.

For the first error, I think in 0.8.3.1 it is looking for an underscore plugin, but you have none in the plugin folder any more, and it errors out.

This is line 169 from bb-settings.php:

foreach ( glob(BBPLUGINDIR . '_*.php') as $_plugin )

I would create a blank php file called _nothing.php (nothing in the file at all) and put that in your plugin directory. The name of the file does not matter, except it needs to begin with an underscore. The contents of the file don't matter either. We just want something for bbPress to see in that directory so it does not fail. That should prevent the first error. I think it will actually take care of the second error as well. It's also related to having no underscore plugins in the plugin directory.

Thanks for posting your bbPress versions: it was invaluable in finding the right line numbers and relevant code.

I tried to integrete a new forum with a new web site. Got a message saying:
Duplicate key name 'user_nicename'
>>> User tables will already exist when performing a database integrated installation Forum could not be created!

I tries again but without integration. Now it seemed to work but it is all in English even though I specified
define('BB_LANG', 'sv_SE.mo');

in the config.php and included sv_SE.mo in a folder called languages in bb-includes

The problem might be that my nice name Göran includes a character with a diacritic sign which this English-centered programme cannot handle?

Should I delete the bb-tables from my database and install again or has my wp-tables also been affected by my attempt to integrate?

Please help!

Hi, everyone,

I'm trying to deactivate my plugins to upgrade my bbPress from 0.8.3.1 to 0.9.0.2. On my admin interface there's no activate/deactivate button. It's been a while since I installed them, but I guess I only needed to upload the plugin to my plugins folder and that's it. So I just deleted the plugins from my-plugins folder. I thought it was going to uninstall them, however the forum stops working and I get the following messages:

Warning: Invalid argument supplied for foreach() in /home/wordpres/public_html/forum/bb-settings.php on line 169

Warning: Invalid argument supplied for foreach() in /home/wordpres/public_html/forum/bb-admin/plugins.php on line 7

Am I doing something wrong?

thanks in advance.
Cátia

Hello, I have installed bbPress at one of my websites (in a subdirectory called "forums" - i.e. bbPress is installed at mydomain.com/forums/).

I'm trying to set up Lighttpd URL rewrite rules now in order to achieve SEO friendly permalinks.

I have tried to google a little bit but the only thing I have found is this:

"^/forum/([^/]+)/page/([0-9]+)/?$" => "/forum.php?id=$1&page=$2",
"^/forum/([^/]+)/?$" => "/forum.php?id=$1",
"^/topic/([^/]+)/page/([0-9]+)/?$" => "/topic.php?id=$1&page=$2",
"^/topic/([^/]+)/?$" => "/topic.php?id=$1",
"^/tags/([^/]+)/page/([0-9]+)/?$" => "/tags.php?tag=$1&page=$2",
"^/tags/([^/]+)/?$" => "/tags.php?tag=$1",
"^/tags/?$" => "/tags.php",
"^/profile/([^/]+)/page/([0-9]+)/?$" => "/profile.php?id=$1&page=$2",
"^/profile/([^/]+)/([^/]+)/?$" => "/profile.php?id=$1&tab=$2",

"^/view/([^/]+)/?$" => "/view.php?view=$1",
"^/rss/?$" => "/rss.php",
"^/rss/forum/([^/]+)/?$" => "/rss.php?forum=$1",
"^/rss/topic/([^/]+)/?$" => "/rss.php?topic=$1",

Could anybody tell me how to edit it taking into consideration the subfolder where the bbPress is installed?

My current Lighttpd rewrite rules in config file are bellow:

url.rewrite-once = (
"^/(wp-.+).*/?" => "$0",
"^/images/.*/?" => "$0",
"^/forums/.*/?" => "$0",
"^/temp/.*/?" => "$0",
"^/(sitemap.xml)" => "$0",
"^/(xmlrpc.php)" => "$0",
"^/keyword/([A-Za-z_0-9\-]+)/?$" => "/index.php?keyword=$1",
"^/.*?(\?.*)?$" => "/index.php$1"
)

If you need to pre-moderate new topics/posts, there's a great plugin for that here

If the subject matter is political/contentious, this can be a useful tool :)

You need to create a MySQL database, and then set that in the bb-config file, under MySQL settings. It will need to know the username for your database too.

If you're unclear about setting up a MySQL database on your server, you might need to get bbpress installed for you...

is there a how-to on installation, or do i have to stop each time i encounter something and do a search in the forum? i'd like to know, for example, what database to use (for starters). a step-by-step would be a big help.

thanks.
