When members are emailed a link to a topic that requires login, they are shown a 404 page. I understand this is the intended action.

Is it possible to show a login page instead?

You create a custom 404.php file in your theme and add a link to login/register.

I thought about doing this, however I don’t really want that showing up for when users do actually do go to a page that doesn’t exist.

Is there a way to show the login/register fields only for topics that someone is trying to access?
