SEO Meta Description for Forums and Topics

    Hello,

I’m currently using Yoast SEO for my site with bbPress installed. I’m having trouble figuring out why the SEO descriptions of the forums and topics show something “This topic contains 0 replies, has 1 voice, and was last update…”

Is there a way to show instead the content of the topic. If so, how do I do this with Yoast SEO. Yoast does have the “%%ct_desc_<custom-tax-name>%%” variable but I’m not sure how to change it.

    Any help is greatly appreciated.

it takes awhile for Google to adjust to an SEO plugin so it might take a few hours, so for default without any configuration Google will auto-generate descriptions sometimes

i think this variable is used for taxonomies like topic tags ..%%ct_desc_<custom-tax-name>%%

i think you should try the excerpt variable %%excerpt%%

i also recommend manually writing every forum/category description , using the excerpt variable for topics , and no-index/follow replies but that’s my opinion.

I think you might need an SEO consultant. They understand the search engine marketing landscape. I also had the same problem like yours. But I left it out on the experts.

It takes more time ..it like when you are indexing a website the ide is to not push it. For instance Google doesnt show every change exactly when it happens(and I am not sure if it’s possible) and when you are in webmaster tools for instance. You wate for a whileeee after you submit a sitemap(again as example so that is why it should be like this.) Even the new seo specialist and https://dmbooster.wordpress.com have confirmed that. And it might become faster but it will take a while
Hope I was of some help to someone.
    Yohoo.

I know the Yoast SEO has many problems with BBpress. I wrote a small plugin to help Yoast SEO working better with BBPress.

This plugin improved the following problem with yoast wordpress seo in bbpress:
1, Canonical lost on single forum
2, Canonical lost on single topic page
3, Canonical lost on user profile page
4, Canonical lost on topic tag page
5, Meta title incorrect on user profile page
6, Meta title incorrect on topic tag
7, Meta description lost on topic archive
8, Meta description lost on user profile page
9, Meta description lost topic tag page
10, Meta description lost on single topic page
11, Meta description lost on single forum page

    Hello,

I am using yoast SEO and bbpress forums on my website i.e. Tooth Republic. Unfortunaltely, i am unable to figure out how to change meta description of main page of forums i.e. https://toothrepublic.com/forums/

Unlike other pages, edit button does not appear from yoast SEO plugin on this page. When i go to search appearance setting in SEO, it has a section to change default meta description for forums. Should i makes changes there?

Go to Yoast > Search Appearance

It should be in one of those tabs.

9, Meta description lost topic tag page
10, Meta description lost on single topic page
11, Meta description lost on single forum page

I know this is an old thread but if I install this plugin, would it automatically pull all the meta data (meta title & description) or would I have to manually write the titles and descriptions for each page?

TBH, right now I don’t have the budget to hire an SEO consultant. Plus, I’ve had bad experiences with them before. So I’d prefer if this is something that I could resolve on my own.

    Let me know.

    Thanks.

We understand that Yoast and bbPress may not be fully integrated. We have an open-issue report here: https://github.com/Yoast/wordpress-seo/issues/7332 which seeks to do that. We suggest commenting on the issue so you may be kept aware of updates. You may need to create an account in order to do that.
