bbPress will never have a feature like that built-in.

Also, the plugin (the original and my modded version) is completely unorganized. It should be rewritten …

If nobody else is already remaking it, I could make it my next project.

Is anyone working on a remake of Private Messaging?

I highly doubt anyone else is working on it, it’s a very complex plugin. Not something I would even try to tackle – go for it Nightgunner5.

Nightgunner… if you try remaking the plugin, please consider a way for a forum to keep messages from the old version. We’ve been using the PM plugin for over a year, and it would be nice to keep our old PMs.

I’m working on a few enhancements over PM Extended, but i’m not considering compatibility with the old plugin. I don’t know why it doesn’t work with previous messages, as i never touched the database structure of the plugin (just made a few tweaks).

I would love to see native PMs in bbPress, with a notification system better than an email (eg a widget, or popup informing the visitor of a new PM).

There is BuddyPress that adds this to bbPress right now though.
