phpBB
I know it almost by heart, but that doesn’t help at all.
ok, sorry I don’t know phpbb and the convertor was written some time ago by someone who no longer is actively involved in bbpress.
Have a look through these
Problems when converting from phpBB to bbPress
“No users to import” when attempting to import from latest phpBB
This time, the import worked!
Here’s what I did:
1. Deleted the phpBB search index.
2. Added those weird AOL accounts, etc. (as mentioned in the moderator’s links)—I’m not sure if that mattered, as I did several things at once.
3. Deleted (reset) the previous import in the forum tool options.
4. Deleted all guest posts on the forum (i.e., posts by people without accounts).
Hey that’s great, and thankyou so much for posting what you did, it’ll hopefully help someone else – I’ll keep a note of it !
Really pleased you succeeded 🙂
Good job! Glad it worked out!
I chose the account migration method for bbPress; the accounts were transferred, but no one can log in. The importer stated that accounts would be automatically adjusted upon the first login attempt—but that isn’t happening; no one can log in without resetting their password.
So, one way or another, the importer doesn’t work quite as it should. It shouldn’t be so finicky, and it ought to actually deliver on what it promises—yet it fails to fully do so.
bbPress is still a great forum platform, though for some reason, it seems to have been largely abandoned by its creators.
They could create paid add-ons and turn it into a solid, comprehensive package. After all, wpForo isn’t good at all—quite the opposite. It’s a shame that bbPress isn’t really being developed by its creators anymore; they could let others step in and drive it forward if they no longer have the energy for it themselves.
Sorry to hear about all of that.
I’ve fixed the phpBB importer, and I’m quickly auditing the other importers for similar problems.
See: https://bbpress.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/3683
2.6.18 will include these fixes.
I think bbPress has huge development potential; it is also the most deeply integrated with WordPress. It would be great to see it evolve—perhaps along the lines of other forum solutions that offer comprehensive feature bundles.
It’s a great forum platform, though highly underrated because the core package lacks extensive features. In my view, however, it holds the greatest potential to evolve into a fantastic tool for enriching WordPress sites.
Have you looked at
bbp style pack
It has loads of features for bbpress.
Yes, I’ve known about it for a long time; the creator does such a great job that they ought to put up a statue in his honor. However, it doesn’t offer every feature typical of forums—it provides a good number of them, but not all.
Still, it’s probably the best bbPress plugin out there.
The core software really ought to include more ready-made solutions—specifically, default styling that relies more on the theme’s classes rather than imposing its own. Or, generally speaking, it should look more modern out of the box; that way, more people would use it, since many don’t know how to customize it manually.
phpBB import is fixed in 2.6.18.
I’ll test soon to see if it works—specifically, whether the password changes to the corresponding WordPress hash when someone logs in. Or does it work differently now?
It works the same, with an invisible twist – since you asked 🤣
In theory, for phpBB (and a few other platforms) you don’t *need* to keep your old forum database around anymore to help handle the password conversion – we do it straight from our converted temporary usermeta stash. This was always on the roadmap to finish up, I just never got around to it until now 😆
