error 404 on private forum

When view under user profile, I could see forum/topic under that profile name and clicked on one of the topic under that profile, but has this message appear…

    Error 404
The page you requested cannot be found!

    Perhaps you are here because:
    The page has moved
The page url has been change
    The page no longer exist

I realized that it is a private forum/topic which is not visible to non-logged in users. That’s fine. But instead of displaying the error 404 message, can the admin person modify/personalize the message to say something like. ‘This is a private message, only logged in members can view’?
    Thanks.

  • We don’t actually want to display a notice, it acknowledges that ‘something’ is actually there when the purpose is not unconditionally not display that content to a user who does not have the capabilities to see it.

In bbPress 2.6 this will change from a 404 to a 403 error though:

    Thanks Stephen.

In that case, is it possible to hide the ‘hidden/private’ forum/topic even under the user profile to all non-logged in user or users with no access to the hidden/private forum/topic?

to have ‘Error 404’ it gives users the impression that something is wrong with the site that’s all.

    Thanks.

It ‘should’ be already hidden/private and unable to be seen in a users profile, we have a couple of outstanding issues to fix in this regard that we hope to get fixed for bbPress 2.6.
