Is it possible to enable comments on user profiles? Using comments_template() doesn’t seem to work, as if its disabled or blocked out somewhere

I am not sure why you would want the WordPress comment system on your profile, but a good alternative is to use the BuddyPress activity streams.

Mostly just to keep it simple and easy. I’m trying to refrain from using too many plugins and piecing things together or adding a boatload of unnecessary features

I cannot find a better alternative to BuddyPress activity, sorry.

Using WordPress comments would get too complicated.

You might need to hire a developer to create you something like BuddyPress activity but I guess lighter and simple.
