Display moderation message to user when they submit a post with banned words

My site holds topics/posts in moderation when a user submits a post containing blocked words. However, the user receives no indication that their post is being held for moderation. So they re-post. And re-post.

Here’s what I’m looking to do:

    1) user posts a topic with a blocked word (ex. “Namor”)
    2) User clicks “Post”
    3) A message appears on the page: “Your post is currently awaiting moderation, since it contains words blocked by our system.”
    4) Post does not display for user or moderator until it is approved.

I have a customization that does display a text message inline above the post, I just need to populate the space after the colon with the offending word:

ERROR: Your topic cannot be posted because it contains the following banned words: namor

That might be some custom development and you might need to hire a developer for that.

It wouldnt be that hard I am sure there is a filter to change that.

I’ve changed my mind — all I’m looking to do is have a message display when a message is held for moderation — we have users that keep wondering what happened to their post when a “trigger word” holds it for moderation.

@lvictor Can you share your customization? (displaying a text message inline above the post when user submits a post with banned words)
