In reply to: bbpress widget shortcode
these plugins allow you to place any wordpress widget anywhere you like via shortcode

In reply to: add_role on my site and influence of bbpressthe separate bbpress dynamic caps have been very frustrating for me, i had actually been able to rig something up as the OP described a few years ago with user role editor plugin, but it was broken by the caps change in 2.2 🙁
an interface to set granular permissions per forum by user or user role for bbpress would be a HUGE boon, this is a core feature of all other forum software i am aware of
otherwise, here is an article on customizing bbpress dynamic caps, haven’t tried this one yet
http://gawainlynch.com/customising-dynamic-roles-in-bbpress-2-2/
i have seen robin’s new plugin too, might do almost what i need but i haven’t had a chance to test it yet, but ultimately my goal would be the ability to create different forums for different customized (custom code or URE etc) member roles which are auto-assigned by s2 member

In reply to: bbPress 2.4 Now Availablehmm, i just noticed the same thing on one of my test sites still site running 2.3.2, no bbpress admin tabs except for gd sub items, so i suppose this is OT for 2.4, must be something on my end, sorry
thanks for the update on permissions, Tehnik-bbPress-Permissions seems to be the best solution for now but i am always afraid it might break with a bbpress update, and it requires yet another plugin besides…
In reply to: bbPress 2.4 Now Availablethanks stephen 🙂
might not be a bad idea to put the changelog info or link in top post too, the trac might be kind of confusing for the less experienced
i have updated to 2.4 from 2.3.2 on a few different test sites and have noticed that in some cases, the forums, topics and replies tabs in wp admin disappear, w gd tools and attachments plugins enabled only gd options in forum tab otherwise no forum tab at all, or the others
i tried disabling all other plugins etc but only disabling and reenabling bbpress restored the tabs
main site i updated went fine, admin tabs did not disappear, mostly same plugins, the sites that went odd also all had buddypress installed
for permissions and caps etc, i think it should be a basic feature to have a simple way to create multiple levels of private forums for logged in users – private forums for admins, mods, members, public forums for non-members, etc, basically some type of granular permissions allowing groups and forum access per group membership based on wp user role perhaps, similar to phpbb etc, this is standard w most other forums but currently this is still real tricky w bbpress…
any chance we might we see something along these lines in an upcoming release ?
In reply to: bbPress 2.4 Now Availablebtw, it was in the blog post that “replacing comments with bbPress topics” in 2.5 was mentioned
if you are reading this in the forum and not on the blog (this thread appears as blog post comments and a stand alone topic in the forum), you would not see the blog post or the info therein
maybe a good idea to also link to blog post and list changelog in this type of new version announcement topic, seems lots of forum-centric folks like myself miss some things the way they are, should help avoid such confusion
thanks again 🙂

In reply to: bbPress 2.4 Now Availableany specific info on bbpress 2.4 “Improved user capability integration” listed in the changelog ?
https://wordpress.org/plugins/bbpress/changelog/
will it bring us any closer to being able to easily restrict access to specific forums and posts/replies contained therein to a specific user role without any 3rd party plugins or hacks, or might this new change break any existing methods of creating such per user role forums ?
thanks for the update, i will be installing on at least one site very soon 🙂

In reply to: limit access to special forums for user groupsthis is a major missing piece of the bbpress puzzle, restrict specific forum access to a specific user role
best solution i’ve seen so far is here –
also search through the tags i added to this topic for other solutions
hopefully we will see better access permission control in bbpress someday, but it does not seem to even be on the dev roadmap at this point 🙁

i dont think bbpress css file on its own would cause this sort of server load, try the P3 profiler plugin to determine what other plugins may be overloading your server –

In reply to: Forum visible to specific rolei am not affiliated w tehnik plugin in any way, nor am i selling anything, i am co-dev of PanoPress (which is totally free) but no connection to any of the plugins i mentioned here other than using them on my own sites
i am just trying to help out here as i had been beating my head against this same prob recently, i’ve seen lots of non-working solutions suggested in this forum, and the bbpress devs do not always have time for these issues 🙂
also, i want to encourage development and use of this plugin, and hopefully see better integration of restricting forums to a particular user role in future versions of bbpress, which is a critical missing feature for me
sam
In reply to: Forum visible to specific rolemake sure you have members and tehnik plugin installed and activated
see the Tehnik bbPress Permissions page for more info
http://www.tehnik-design.com/tehnik-bbpress-forum-permissions/
use the content premissions pane (from members plugin) on the forum edit page to control which roles can access that forum
try the User Switching plugin to confirm other roles can see what they are supposed to see
https://wordpress.org/plugins/user-switching/

In reply to: Forum issuesthis has been discussed several times recently on this site, see these topics –
this is the specific plugin that (alongside members) alows restricting forums and child topics/replies to a specific WP user role

you will need these plugins to accomplish what you want
paid (or free) memberships by wp role
https://wordpress.org/plugins/s2member/
create roles and restrict content
https://wordpress.org/plugins/members/
restrict bbpress forums AND child topics/replies by user role (also requires members plugin)
http://www.tehnik-design.com/tehnik-bbpress-forum-permissions/
this plugin may be helpful too for organizing roles and capabilities

In reply to: Forum visible to specific rolei am testing the teknik-design plugin alongside members, user role editor and s2 member on a somewhat complex project and they all seem to be playing nice towether, i’ve tried several options to restrict bbpress forums AND the topics and replies they contain to a specific user role, the teknik-design plugin is the first thing i’ve found that so far seems to actually work 🙂
unless i am mistaken or it is a very recent development, s2member does NOT allow restricting bbpress posts and replies by parent forum role permissions, even w url restrictions as topic urls do not contain forum slug or similar
so w teknik, you would use members or URE to create a new role and apply the viewing permissions w members (w teknik installed and activated) and it should all work, leave the forum open and visible otherwise
you can use the user switching plugin to confirm it is all working as expected
teknik plugin author says he intends to make this not require separate members plugin and release it as stand alone wp directory plugin after a bit more testing, so anyone interested should encourage him to develop this further via the links in my first post 🙂

In reply to: Forum visible to specific rolethere is a new plugin in development to restrict forums>topics>replies by user role, seems to work fine in my testing so far, requires wordpress members plugin
https://wordpress.org/support/topic/members-and-bbpress
https://github.com/ZanderAdam/Tehnik-bbPress-Permissions
This plugin allows bbPress forums to be filtered and restricted based on the users ranks as set by the Members plugin.
The plugin will hide all forums and subforums the user does not have permissions to access.
It will display a 404 error if the user attempts to access restricted forum/topicsam
In reply to: any POLLS that will work with current versions?hmm, the other plugin i listed earlier seems to have been pulled from the wp plugin directory, authors page for that plugin is here – http://www.vinojcardoza.com/cardoza-wordpress-poll/
this poll plugin is still avail and also works fine w bbpress 2.3.1 via shortcode
https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wp-polls/
note that shortcodes in bbpress may create other probs as jared mentioned above, using plugins like these will allow you to specify allowed shortcodes via whitelist and exclude [bbp_login] etc
https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/bbpress2-shortcode-whitelist/
https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/bbpress-bbcode/
and this one will allow shortcodes by user role
https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/gd-bbpress-tools/

In reply to: Per Forum Permissions by Grouphere’s a new plugin which may resolve this issue –
http://www.tehnik-design.com/bbpress-forum-permissions/

The plugin will hide all forums and subforums the user does not have permissions to access.

In reply to: Need help finding a few pluginshave you tried searching the wordpress plugin directory ?
https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/search.php?q=bbpress
https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/tags/bbpress
sam
if you search the wordpress plugin repository for “avatar” or “bbpress avatar” you will find several options
https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/search.php?q=bbpress+avatar
https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/search.php?q=avatar
this one looks good, and explicitly supports bbpress
https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wp-user-avatar/
this one works too
https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/user-avatar/
you may also need to grant forum users upload permissions using something like User Role Editor
https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/user-role-editor/

In reply to: Need URL for new users to registermake a new page and add the register shortcode to that page, then add the url for that page to the widget
`[bbp-register]`
more shortcodes here
In reply to: Per Forum Permissions by Groupyou could try buddypress, it has more control over groups and such
with the plugins i listed, you should be able to create 1 level of private forums, just use hidden forums for clan members or site mods group, assign access to hidden forums via user role editor
have a look a this plugin too
https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/groups/
you could also try a plugin called s2member which allows protection of individual forums via “URI Level Access Restrictions” this (free) plugin is intended for pay sites but you could make all levels $0 i guess
https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/s2member/
http://www.s2member.com/forums/topic-tag/bbpress/
but in the end, proper per forum group permissions as in phpbb etc are something i would really like to see in bbpress
for reference, from the bbpress docs –
Visibility: decide whether your forum is public, private or hidden.
Public – Anyone can see these forums
Private – Only logged in registered users can see these forums
Hidden: Only Moderators/Admins can see these forums
