    Michael,

Unfortunately, I haven’t been able to make any progress on this since I last posted. The best temporary solution I can recommend is to set any affected users with ability to “view all pages/posts”. I know, not a great solution.

I encourage you to contact WishList about this issue and suggest that they fix it!

    Best,
    Alex

Okay, contacted WishList, and confirmed (again) that WLM is the culprit. WishList’s position is that they don’t support bbPress, but they’re helping me troubleshoot a bit.

I’ve got a dev site with the unencrypted plugin for testing/debugging, but I’m not really sure where to start… I welcome your suggestions here or on twitter @alexweberis.

How would you suggest I troubleshoot this issue further? Ideally, I’d like to be smart about it, rather than trying to go through the WishList Member plugin “from the top”.

Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

Looks like WishList Member is the culprit.

Disabled, reloaded the page, it showed all replies. In order to fix the issue, I’ve set the affected users to a membership role with access to all posts/pages.

I’ve contacted WishList via twitter asking to file a bug report. If you’re experiencing the same issue, and can confirm that it’s WishList Member-related, please contact WishList as well and ask them to fix the issue (@wishlistproduct on twitter).

Thanks for the insight, Boone! I’ll try that and report back.

    More testing!

I’ve tested clearing W3TC and that seemed to have no effect.

Upgraded WP and bbP and that doesn’t seem to have any effect either.

One additional weird thing — when I moved the affected user to the “Participant” role for the forum, they couldn’t see ANYTHING. This seems like a separate issue, but felt I should mention it here. When they were set as forum role “Spectator”, the forum/topics displayed as usual (still missing the first post)

    @lynq, thanks for the reply.

On my site we are running W3 Total Cache…

I don’t think that would explain the persistent inability to view first posts for only some users, though!

    Thanks again!

Got a couple more people reporting this issue on my site.

They are marked as role “Subscriber” but it doesn’t seem to be all members with that role.

    Thoughts?

Bumping since this is still an issue on my site… Any inklings about where to debug this would be welcome!

    @mralexweber

I’ve just done a bit of additional testing on my site (experiencing the same issue but only for one user AFAIK)

It seems the first post is not showing up in the HTML at all!

I don’t think it’s a theme issue since this is only happening for one user (again, AFAIK) and not all users.

Would really love some input from the bbP team on this one!

I also have a user experiencing this issue (where they can’t see the first post in a thread) on our BuddyPress + bbPress site. We are using the default bbP-theme within DynamiX WP/BP theme. I will attempt to change our theme and report back if that fixes it.

Any other ideas what might be causing this? Anyone else experiencing this issue?

Just in case anyone comes across a “404 page not found” error after installing this plugin, I was able to trace my issue to a conflict with another plugin — specifically, “Buddypress Members Directory”. I deactivated the plugin, edited the permalink of the page which I set to be forums index, and everything seems peachy-keen now.

Okay, I hate to be ‘that guy’ but I’ve gotta ask…

I created forums through the admin interface, created a page (named “forum”) and set the page template to bbPress index. So far, so good. The page loads and I can see the forums I created.

However, when I click on one of the forums, for instance, “General Discussion”, I get a 404.

I’m using the DynamiX theme and I have added the various page templates, loop templates, css, etc. from the plugin. I tested on a different subdomain and it was working, but now it’s not.

Does Twentyten somehow “create” the /forums/forum/ and /forums/topic/topic-name/ pages when it’s initialized? I looked at the functions.php included and didn’t see anything like this going on.

I have also made sure to network activate the plugin, it was previously only activated on this site. Could that be the source of the problem?

    Thanks again, everyone.

@ch8rt, I’m just learning this plugin, but I would suggest you look at loop-bbp_topics.php (in the plugin folder structure it’s in plugin/bbp-themes/bbp-twentyten/ ). Around line 16 is where the table gets created. It’ll need a little custom mojo to get it working totally right, but let us know how it goes!

    Hey JJJ/everyone!

Just got the plugin working on our server and for the most part, everything works. Exciting!

However, something that puzzled me was the “profiles”. My guess is that this version they are going to be separate pages from BuddyPress profile pages (yes, we’re also using BP) and later be merged when BP provides new profile functionality?

In the mean time, it looks like we’ll have to overload the bbp_author_link function… that, or hack out every instance of it, which I would prefer not to do.

If anyone could comment or guide me in the right direction, I’d be very grateful. Thanks for the great work everyone!
