Geez, I swear it was letting me pick the categories before, but went back and tested and it seems fine now. Must be gremlins in my machine. Thanks very much; this is very helpful.
Thanks so much for responding and providing this code. It doesn’t quite do it in my case, as it allows users to choose to post to categories as well as forums, and I’d like to force them to choose a forum.

Hi there, I am wondering this as well — using the short code [bbp-topic-form] is it possible to make the “Forum” dropdown menu a required field, and to require that in that drop down users choose a forum and not be able to choose “no forums” (which currently shows as the the default option).

Thank you very much. I tried deactivating and then activating all the plugins I was using. I think it was caused by bbpress WP tweaks, which I wasn’t even really using anyway, so I just turned it off, and now my forums are back. I guess I should have thought about toggling all the plugins off/on to see if one was the culprit. Thank you for your time.
Thanks very much for your reply. I went into settings and switched to the post name format, but I’m still getting blank pages, for example:

I didn’t see a “refresh” option in there for permalinks — just the option to select different types of permalinks. Did I miss something? Or is there anything else I can try?
