In reply to: Site broken after update to v2.6.14OK, have rumbled it rather quicker than expected. There is a code snippet to place the “Contact” link in the forum – I tried deactivating it but could not. After several activations and deactivations of โFront End PMโ it seems to have turned that off for me and all seems to be working now as it should.
Fingers crossed . . .
John
PS – and thanks for being so patient with me, and forgive me also for initially blaming the upgrade.
In reply to: Site broken after update to v2.6.14Doh! Lawdy me, how stupid can I be? Deepest apologies.
I do want to retain the private groups, so please forget that side of things.
It is “Front End PM” that I want to remove, and disabling that has re-introduced the fatal error on the forum pages.
The debugging reports:
Fatal error: Uncaught Error: Call to undefined function fep_current_user_can() in /home/signalbo/public_html/wp-content/plugins/code-snippets/php/snippet-ops.php(584) : eval()’d code:5 Stack trace: #0 /home/signalbo/public_html/wp-includes/class-wp-hook.php(324): {closure}(”) #1 /home/signalbo/public_html/wp-includes/class-wp-hook.php(348): WP_Hook->apply_filters(NULL, Array) #2 /home/signalbo/public_html/wp-includes/plugin.php(517): WP_Hook->do_action(Array) #3 /home/signalbo/public_html/wp-content/plugins/bbpress/templates/default/bbpress/loop-single-reply.php(56): do_action(‘bbp_theme_after…’) #4 /home/signalbo/public_html/wp-includes/template.php(812): require(‘/home/signalbo/…’) #5 /home/signalbo/public_html/wp-content/plugins/bbpress/includes/core/template-functions.php(103): load_template(‘/home/signalbo/…’, false) #6 /home/signalbo/public_html/wp-content/plugins/bbpress/includes/core/template-functions.php(41): bbp_locate_template(Array, true, false) #7 /home/signalbo/public_html/wp-content/plugins/bbpress/ in /home/signalbo/public_html/wp-content/plugins/code-snippets/php/snippet-ops.php(584) : eval()’d code on line 5
so I understand from that the error lies with the code-snippets plugin although as yet I’m not quite sure where to start on that. I’ll give it some thought but if you have any suggestions they wuld be appreciated.

In reply to: Site broken after update to v2.6.14Thanks once again for your quick response.
Yes, am happy with most of what you say but somehow the “bbP private groups” plugin does seem to be in some form of limbo. It currently shows “bbP private groups” as disabled on the Plugins page but it is definitely still active. Registered members on the Forum can still see the “Contact” Link below people’s Avatars and I have just tested using a identity I use for testing and have successfully sent a PM to myself as Administrator – this instantly showed “You have 1 message unread” on my Administrator identity and clicking on the link has taken me to the message and all previous messages, just as it always has. So everything seems to still be there despite the pligin showing itaself as disabled (i.e. it shows links for Activate and Delete).
I need to find a way to properly disable/remove this plugin – one option open to me is to delete the plugin but I fear doing that could make things worse.
Any suggestions welcome.

In reply to: Site broken after update to v2.6.14OK . . . I have had the debugging running and it throws a lot of errors relating to the theme but nothing obvious for the forum. The email tracking has produced no results to date.
With more research the issue seems to have been caused by the BBP Private Groups plugin, which I had disabled as I no longer wish to use it. I re-enabled it and everything then displayed correctly, I disabled it again and everything still seems to work correctly but the plugin seems to still be active!
Therefore it would seem the problem related to that plugin not disabling as it should the first time, and not specifically the BBP upgrade.
I have left the debugging active at the moment, but would like to remove it soon as it is a bit unsightly for users.
Best regards,
John
In reply to: Site broken after update to v2.6.14Thanks, I am on the case but have to go out for a while.

In reply to: Site broken after update to v2.6.14Thanks for the quick reply, Robin.
I monitor that address regularly and no emails have been received. Do I need to turn anything on for that?
John
In reply to: Private MessagingThank you, both.
In terms of feedback I am currently experimenting with Front End PM but have the usual concerns that the developer hasn’t updated it for eight months nor tested it with recent WP versions.
That’s not to say it doesn’t work of course, but it might not be futureproof.
BP Better Messages may be a better option in the longer term. Last updated 18 minutes ago as I write.

In reply to: Display issuesJust an update to say query No1 is resolved too.
Many thanks indeed.

In reply to: Display issuesRobin – you are an absolute gem! No2 sorted in a flash!
I will confirm on item 1 as soon as somebody posts something fresh.

In reply to: Display issuesHi Robin,
Thanks for the reply. Sorry if I wasn’t clear. It wasn’t helped by the formatting going funny on me.
1. It wasn’t displaying as I thought it should – I wasn’t sure if that was by design or not! But I have gone to dashboard>settings>bbp style pack>bug fixes as you suggest. I don’t see an option for “latest” reply but have activated “Fix Last Active Time” which will hopefully do the trick? I won’t be able to tell on that, as you say, until somebody posts something.
2. If you follow this link:
the top topic, “Feel Welcome” is the one that appears compressed and isn’t using the full width.Best regards,
John
In reply to: Moving a reply to a new topicBlimey, Robin – you said a couple of days. Time flies!
Once again a BIIIIIG thank you.

In reply to: Moving a reply to a new topicHi again, Robin,
I have found the conflict. It is:
“Another WordPress Classifieds Plugin (AWPCP)”Not for me to criticise or condemn anything – I’m just naming it here in case anybody comes up against the same problem.
Best regards,
John
In reply to: Moving a reply to a new topicI am known to make mistakes! Maybe I did something wrong.
The bad news is that my super-dooper moderator (who I admit I did ask to test things to death before we open the site to the masses) has now discovered he gets that same error messages when trying to merge topics.
The fix in BBstylepack is still activated so it seems that isn’t a fix for everything.
I’m not sure if I should be asking for more help from you as the impression I get is that another plugin is causing a conflict. And looking at your snippet code it looks to me as if that is for splitting topics only. But I thought I should make you aware.
Meanwhile I will start disabling plugins and see what gives.
John
Best regards,
John
In reply to: Moving a reply to a new topicWelllllll . . . blow me sideways!
So embarrassing that I hadn’t dug that deep into the bbpstylepack settings.
All now working. Thank you VERY much for your time on this.
Best regards,
John
In reply to: Moving a reply to a new topicHi Robin,
Those that relate to BBpress are:
Advanced noCaptcha & invisible Captcha
bbP private groups
bbp style pack
bbPress Login Register Links On Forum Topic Pages
bbPress Messages
bbPress Unread Posts v2
LoginPress – Customizing the WordPress Login
WP User AvatarI’m sure your next suggestion will be to disable them all, which I am happy to do if necessary, The forum is not publicly visible yet. I was just hopeful the OP may have already found the problem ๐
Let me know if that’s the direction you would like me to go.
Best regards,
John
In reply to: Moving a reply to a new topicThanks for the quick response, Robin.
I am afraid I still get the same message – “A variable mismatch has been detected.”, with PHP7.1.
I added this using Code Snippets.
John
In reply to: Moving a reply to a new topicChuckie, did you find a solution?
I read on the linked thread that reverting to PHP7.1 (I was previously on 7.3) would fix it, but it doesn’t for me.
My combination is now WP v5.4 and PHP 7.1.
