    @docchewbacca

    Thank you for this update.

    The search function is welcome.

From what I understand, the ability to set individual access rights to individual forums (discussed here) has not been added with 2.3. Any idea if this will actually come in a future release ? I understood it was not an easy feature, but since this is something I’m waiting to expand the use of forums on my site, I’d like to know if bbPress will include it in a not-too-far future.

    Thanks.

    Update: I did this https://bbpress.org/forums/topic/roles-capabilities/

    and now it’s working.

I also have a 404 error that I didn’t not use to have in the past.

This is happening on a private forum.

    Link is : http://nantes.ascee-ceteo.fr/forums/forum/nkms/

Even without being logged in, you should get a bbpress message saying you can’t reach the forum. Instead, there is this 404 error page.

Of course the same happens when you are logged in.

I tried changing the permalink, it didn’t do anything.

I tried swapping the forum to public, it worked (but when I revert to private, the 404 error is back).

    Hi

I looked at version 2.2, updated my bbpress, but didn’t find how to manage forum access on an individual user basis.

    Has this feature been implemented?

    Great news !
Any idea (even approximate) of the delay before 2.2 happens ? (since this is a feature that I’m currently badly missing, I just want to know if it’s more a matter of weeks, months, one year… to know if it’s worth looking for a work-around until 2.2 is here)

I am looking for the same thing : I’d like to be able to manage user access on a per forum basis.

    Ie :
    – Users A, B, C have access to forum 1
    – Users C, D, E, have access to forum 2
    – User A does not have access to forum 2
    – User E does not have access to forum 1

I tried to look into the WordPress capabilities and roles management, but since a given user can only have one role, this does not solve my problem. In my example above, users B and C would not be able to access 2 different restricted forums.

I read somewhere on this forum (but can find where !) that user access management like this was planned for BBpress 2.1, but I realize this was not the case.

I searched for a plugin, with no luck. I also tried other WordPress forum plugins, some offer a feature like this, but I didn’t like the rest of what they offered in comparison with BBpress.

Any idea of a solution that would not be over-complicated ? Or is it a feature that’s being looked into for a future BBpress release ?

Thank you for your reply, however I noticed that 2.1 has now been released, therefore I won’t need to install a RC package.

    Thanks !

Not sure if it will fix your problem, but try this :

    – go to settings > forums in your wordpress admin panel

    – click “save changes”

Thank you for the explanation Jaja.

Unfortunately I have a very cheap provider. I can try and ask them to increase the limit, but before that I’d like to be sure that this is actually the issue.

The thing I don’t understand is why this was working well a few hours ago, and now it’s needing more memory. I didn’t add any plugin. I even removed the existing forums and re-started bbPress from the beginning. It currently has just one forum with just one topic in it.

What I did today (between the moment it was working and the moment it was broken) is try various plugins (all uninstalled now), especially Buddypress, Mingle Forum, Simple:Press, Role Scoper and Groups.

Note that the individual forum page and the topic page work fine. It’s only the main page with the list of forums that generate the error message.

I’m having the same error but not after upgrading anything.

It worked just fine this morning, throughout the day I installed and uninstalled various plugins (after testing their features and feeling unsatisfied). My site has the same plugins set as this morning, same bbPress and WordPress versions, no other plugin has been updated, but now when I’m trying to reach the main bbpress forums page, I have this error message.

“Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 134217728 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 72 bytes) in /home/users5/a/asceeceteo/www/wordpress/wp-includes/plugin.php on line 137”

@jaredatch: I tried the memory bump plugin but it didnt fix the problem

I’m looking for a way to restrict a forum to a specified list of users. I don’t want to allow a whole role to access the forum, but only a list of manually selected members.

Is there an easy way to do this ?

I’m trying to use the Role Scoper plugin but it’s either complicated, either not working.
