UPDATE: Apparently it’s broken for everyone due to a change in the Twitter API: https://core.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/26844

Yeah, I tested oEmbeds in a regular post with the same results– works for Flickr & Youtube but not Twitter. Hmm….

Just as a follow-up, this post DID show up, which seems to indicate that the problem was with the URL used in the other two attempts. Can someone confirm?

Why would my URL be flagged as spam (by Akismet, I presume) and how can I fix this? I am not a spammer and never have been.

Oh yes, the site in question: http://bigblueball.com/discuss/

Stephen, I don’t think I ever said I had a handful of users. The actual number is over 17,000.

There are several pages in the WordPress admin where a pick list with ALL users is displayed. These pages will tend to several minutes to load and allow me to use them. I mention this because for bbPress to be useful for a volume of users (> 10000) there needs to be some adjustment to the way the user lists are created.

    Here are two problem pages:

    • Delete Users – the list appears under “Attribute all posts to”
    • Widgets – the list of users is loaded under one or more widgets

For the same reason that /wp-admin/users.php only displays 20 users per page, these lists should do something similar. Or rather than a list, use a search.

I figure this isn’t something quickly or easily fixed, but suggest that it be considered in the future. And certainly bbpress.org has the same issue… how do you/they deal with it?

Stephen, I know about the typeahead feature for select lists, but the list is so long (with thousands of names) that the widget page takes several minutes to load. I have to wait… and wait… and wait before I can even scroll on the page or do anything with any widget. Very unusable.

Thanks, Stephen. This was very helpful. I ran the queries to purge the accounts with no posts, and the membership dropped to about 17,000 — still a lot, but much more manageable.

As for the delete user function, the problem with the current design is that it creates a pick list to attribute the original users’ posts to someone else. For me, that’s a pick list with over 17,000 names. It takes a while to load to say the least!

Thanks, John. I found the solution but had to do a little digging. It was on page two of the comments about the last release.

    Here’s the solution:

Once I went to Settings / Forums / and ticked the check box:

“Automatically assign default role to new, registered users upon visiting the site.”

then saved, the ‘Forums’, ‘Topics’, and ‘Replies’ admin menus showed up.

    Aron and Irene,

I tried using the User Role Editor and resetting all roles, but no luck. Still no menus. If I click on the bbPress dashboard widget, I get a “Cheatin’ uh?” message.

Yep, I’m having the same problem. The forums seem to be working fine on the front-end, so I didn’t notice this until I tried to create a new forum today.

I’ve got the same problem. Running the latest version of everything. Been having no problems until I tried to go and create a new forum today. The front-end is working fine.

    Thanks, JJJ.

Given that the Forums, Topics and Replies checkboxes under Settings > Sharing don’t show up until you install bbPress, it’s understandable that I thought it should work.

I really don’t want sharing buttons under each reply — the Topic and Forum level would be sufficient. I’ll keep digging and see what I can sort out.

I’m having this same problem. I’ve tried using Jetpack share icons on a fresh install of WP with bbPress (no other plugins) and the Twenty Twelve theme, and they won’t show up. I check the boxes for Forums, Topics and Replies under Settings > Sharing, but no luck.

Jim, you said you figured out a workaround, can you elaborate? I’d like to include them on Forums and Topics (but probably not replies).
