You should be sure you renamed it from config-sample.php and that it’s in the same root folder as your forum, then you should copy and paste the first set of editable lines from your config.php file and paste them here so people can see.

Is there a simple modification to the plugin that can be made to fix this problem?
Did not work, I put a print statement in the userspace.php, printing “This code is being executed.” and it showed up, but does not solve the whitespace problem.

I copied this code into a file called userspace.php and then copied that file into the my-plugins folder. Is there anything else I need to do?

Agreed. Put the fields right there! (this should actually be simple to do with a little template editing) the bbPress dev team might be better to delegate this one…
