Sorry if my comment was unclear. I resolved the issue by rolling back to 8.1, after which importing was fine. I updated PHP afterwards.
bbpress 2.6.14 and I rolled php back from 8.3 to 8.1 (not 7 as I said above)
The debug log showed a PHP 8.3 dynamic-property deprecation issue in the bbPress importer.
I converted from phpbb and got stuck for a while, with the importer hanging on importing users. I had to roll php back to an older version v7.x to get past this. After importing, I updated the php version.
I’ve just done a phpbb conversion to bbpress. To import the attachments, I used ChatGPT. It feels like an ideal candidate for a premium version of bbpress, one I would be willing to pay for. It’s a hobby site with little income. I did raise £200 through donations so that indicates my budget. Might be worth it if enough people contributed.
The phpbb importer largely worked well, but I had to roll the site back to a previous PHP version as it doesn’t work with the current version of PHP.
