PHPBB3 Converstion

    We are excited about the possibility of converting from PHPBB3 to BBPress. However all the discussions about conversion seem to surround previous versions of PHPBB. Am I missing an appropriate thread? Does anyone have any suggestions?

    Does anyone know if somebody may be working on this?

    I agree with u. I also need a converter for my phpbb forum. There is one for phpbb2, but it's not working with bbpress 0.8.2.1 I mean http://bbpress.org/forums/topic/importing-from-phpbb?replies=26.

    Should I give up on this? I *may* be willing to *help* fund a conversion solution if anyone is interested in taking on this project.

    I also wonder if anyone has done an analysis of the differences to know what specific loss of functionality I will have if I convert from PHPBB to BBRess.

    This really should be good for promotion of bbPress, to have a converter for phpbb3 that is.

    This is very important if one already got a forum but want to have a *GOOD* integration with WordPress on a new site.

    Imagine loosing 4000 users just to be able to change to bbPress. It just won't happen and it's a damn shame that there isn't a converter yet. :/

    Wow, there isn't any tool to move from phpbb3 to bbpress ? How bad it is :-(.

    Import/Export is being improved as part of a Google Summer of Code project. We will hopefully have some results from that to share by the end of it.

    The basic idea is to create export plugins for other forum software which can export to a standard format. Then we will have one importer to import that standard format into bbPress.

    Is the phpBB 3.0 converter included in bbPress 1.0 alpha 2? Just curious, I'm interested in testing it out.

    bbxf if the work in progress - it's in it's infancy however and you'll have to look at previous work by others on the phpbb2 convertor. There is no 1 minute way, it's going to take some time and effort.

    Oh, it seems this will take a very long time to have a convertor for phpbb 3 :'(.
    Is there another way to convert a phpbb 3 to bbpress (tutorial ?) :) ?

    It seems not to work for my phpbb3 board :(. Perhaps the 13000 messages are for something in this... ?

    And will passwords be "ok" ?

    Just realized I can't do it, the phpBB3 -> phpBB2 converter doesn't bring over the users. And I don't want to lose my userbase.

    So it looks like I'll just be waiting until a phpBB3 -> bbPress converter is finished! Whenever that'll be!

    A simple phpBB3 to bbPress converter would be great. I really hope this gets done soon -- bbPress + WordPress absolutely rocks.

    I am also curious as to when a converter would be available. The only thing holding me back from switching to bbPress is the lack of an easy way to import a phpBB3 database into a bbPress installation.

    i used phpbb for like 5 years now, it's a great forum software, but i have to say that i admire the simple/plain approach of bbpress.
    so, am working on a phpbb3 -> bbpress converter. so far i figured all i need to convert forums, topics, posts, user info. i only have a problem moving user passwords, so does anybody know of a way of importing user passwords from phpbb3 to bbpress ? the problem is that phpbb3 doesn't use plain md5 anymore, and i don't know exact details about the new hashing method.
    am thinking about importing all users without passwords- or even with unified password, then generate new passwords for them all through bbpress admin panel and send it to their emails, but if i can import passwords it would be far better.
    anybody interested in helping me ?
