Sometimes a forum topic / reply @mentions somebody (yes, a Buddypress function).

Then the reply gets many quotes, the poor user who was mentioned gets inundated with emails about all these mentions, when only one email be sent.
I’m sure all the people who quote the reply with the mention don’t realise and don’t mean for the @mentioned person to receive a bombardment of emails.

Or does anyone know of a filter to disable mentions in quotes?

Obviously you are very quotable !!

From a quick goggle one or both of these might work

1. add this to your functions file

add_filter( 'bbp_find_mentions', '__return_false' );

If that doesn’t work or you are being mentioned in buddypress as well

2. this plugin whilst old probably still works

Thanks for the reply. However it’s only in quotes that I want to disable it somehow. Not general mentions, just repeated notifications about the same one (due to people quoting the OP).

However I did find one thing that might be interfering, bbp-toolkit plugin had a “send email for mentions” box ticked. Will see how I get one after deactivating that.

ok, I see you also sensibly posted on the buddypress forum as well.

I suspect they’re better placed to work out a solution, but if you get nothing back in a week, bump this topic and I’ll try and find the buddypress hook and see how easy it is to overwrite.
