No Reply Generating Site Address Incorrectly Resulting In Undelivered Email?

    @surachar

    Hi. A couple of updates ago, our Site-Wide Forum began delivering new topic notices and notices to the site admin/s erratically. I have been trying to track down the cause ever since. Our host helped me find undelivered email and we noticed an incorrect listing of the site address (see header below). Will you please tell me how I can correct this, and will you please address this in your next update? The site notifications and BuddyPress Forum notifications seem to be going out fine. Thank you.

    Sincerely,

    Sura (Webmaster, not a developer – so please explain things 🙂

    I suspect your issue is with Easy WP SMTP 1.0.9

    there are a couple of threads on their support site about needing to change/resave settings after the upgrade to 1.0.8 that might apply to you

    https://wordpress.org/support/plugin/easy-wp-smtp

    and go to support

    Hello Robin,

    Thank you for your kind response. I deactivated, deleted, reinstalled, and reactivated the Easy WP SMTP plug-in and tested: same result (below.) The mail is going out, and being received, except that our site name is missing the ‘s’, and so, our host is occasionally not delivering it. I didn’t see any other applicable support threads in the plug-in forum. Any other suggestions, please? Shall I post this to the Easy WP SMTP forum, or is really their issue. It would help if I knew where and how the site address is called.

    Thank you!

    Sincerely,

    Sura

    Hello Robin,

    I’ve got the same issue also. Just noticed that my website url is starting with an “s” as Sura’s. I have never installed the plugin the Easy SMTP plugin.

    It might be related with this line in /includes/common/functions.php line:1065

    $do_not_reply = '<noreply@' . ltrim( get_home_url(), '^(http|https)://' ) . '>';

    Kind Regards

    OK, but did you just deactivate the plugin, and then test a forum post. I was keen to see if the problem was being caused by bbpress or the plugin.

    @nightcoder
    – you’re issue may or may not be the same. That’s why I’m keen to get surachar
    to see if they have the problem without the plugin.

    The bit of code you quote is the bit that sets up the variable for the to address, but as far as I can see there’s nothing there that should be causing a problem, it simply strips the http part from the URL as set in wp_options ‘home’.

    Hello Dears,

    @Robin
    – did run a test yesterday; please see below. Yes – it is still missing the ‘s’. This test was with both Easy WP SMTP and WP Email Template Pro deactivated.

    @nightcoder
    – sorry you are having this problem also, however it is always good having another set of variables for troubleshooting. Hopefully we can get this resolved for everyone :-).

    Kind Regards,

    Sura

    @Sura You getting this “Mail Delivery Failure” email because there is no such email and domain name. BB-Press sends email to all the subscribers and also sends an email to “noreply@oi-seattle-kinship.org” Since there is no such an email, you getting the bounce back email.

    @Sura
    and @Robin

    I disabled all plugins and still noreply email missing the first “s” like;

    noreply@itename.com instead of noreply@sitename.com

    When I change line:1065 in includes/common/functions.php like this

    	//$do_not_reply  = '<noreply@' . ltrim( get_home_url(), '^(http|https)://' ) . '>';
    	$do_not_reply  = '<noreply@sitename.com>';

    it works with or without the plugins.

    Hope this helps both developers and users

    @nightcoder You Rock! I was having this same problem where the “s” was missing from our noreply address. I followed your instruction and modified bbpress/includes/common/functions.php and it works perfectly! Thank you very much. 🙂

    @vegasinc I’m glad to hear that helped. Hope bbPress resolves the issue soon.
